We had the good fortune of connecting with Lina Hayek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am not sure i had a choice. Lol! I do know that for me, sitting in a “traditional” setting of an office job, does not feed my soul. I admire people who are able to do that, and get work done and succeed. My mother did that as a secretary for many years, and she excelled at it. I wish i was that disciplined in that sort of space. I do not think i could have gotten away from my creativity if i had tried. It wasn’t a simple this is what i am doing now, it was more of a journey path i explored, by chance, and was given the opportunity to succeed at it. I am very fortunate to have had the support needed to be able to pursue it 20+ years ago, and now be successful at it. 🙂
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a musician, the key to success, is practice. While we can be born with a natural gene, we still need to work at making the business portion of it succeed. I can not just get up and play guitar and sing, and then sit back in my own space and ponder. There has to be a motivation to continue doing what i love. A lot of that is knowing i do not want to be stuck in a daily rut with a 9-5. So if i want to work for myself and enjoy what i am doing, then i have to hustle… i always say “without a struggle, there aint no hustle.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh for sure, we got to do what the locals do, and go to the eatery’s they dine at. Not a fan of the “touristy” things… i like the beaten off path and exploring places that are less traversed. For instance, when i traveled to New Zealand, i only booked the first and last night’s stay, knowing i would have 7 more days to explore from the original of that place to the last one… this by far was one of the best trips i had ever experienced. Along this route we discovered nature, repelling with glow worms, black water rafting, natural hot springs, and amazing food! Always leave yourself room for flexibility, not rigidity. Another life motto! 🙂
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is my rock and always has been. Having a supportive partner is everything, and having amazing parents who cultivated and encouraged my success is the pivotal kickstarter to it all. If we break it down and go to the origins, i got to give the major props to my higher power – faith is everything!
