We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda And Bryan Behan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linda and Bryan, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
At the beginning it was easy for us to get into a flow. But now, we’re first time parents and it has been HARD. Haha. Having to work around nap times and feedings, it all has to be very strategic. But, we’re slowly finding the balance and making sure we’re present with our 1 year old and keeping up with deadlines. I don’t think we’d be able to do that with a regular 9-5 and feel pretty lucky for that. Plus, we get to take our daughter to estate sales and thrifting so, it’s fun!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We started working on furniture during the pandemic. Like many, we just wanted to do something to get our minds off what was going on. It all started with our kitchen table. The brown was a little too outdated, so we decided to give it a spruce sanding off the top to stain and the rest we painted.

It was so fun and somewhat therapeutic just working on something and giving it a new life. As we continued the journey, we started to get other vintage items to use while we staged our refinished pieces to sell.

We eventually started to accumulate items so we decided to do vintage markets. Those are so fun! But those only last a weekend. Now we have something more permanent, a booth at King Richards in Whittier.

Many people will see an old piece of furniture that’ll remind them of their grandma or parents and think it’s ugly or won’t fit with their style. But, we see something that can be freshened up and be placed in your home for many more years to come.

If we can save a vintage piece from being thrown out into the landfill and have it place into a home, then I can say we did our small part. It’s true what they say, they don’t make them like they used to!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Obviously we’re taking them to King Richards Antique Center to show them our booth! Definitely can spend a whole day there. Uptown Whittier has a charm we fell in love with and the movie theater is awesome.

The beach of course, which is where we love to go with our furbaby, Dirk. Then, definitely get some delicious pupusas, there’s so many places to choose from like Vchos or Sivar. We’d grab some cafecito and dessert at Porto’s for sure!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all of our refinisher friends who are always supporting us and exchanging tips and tricks within the community.

Also our family, especially Linda’s brother, Sal. He gave us a spot in his shop to work in, always made himself available for pick up/deliveries, let us borrow his van, and always sees the many opportunities Flip Off can have when we can’t.
