We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linda, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson that my business has taught me is to be patient and positive. Success doesn’t come overnight initially, and at first, what you put into your business isn’t always what you get out of it. Return of investment takes time, which is why it’s important to do what you love, and love what you do. Staying positive and focused is the key, never lose sight of your goal; appreciate the journey because that’s your success story.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been planning social events and fundraisers since college, always taking the lead in organizing for friends and family. Event planning comes naturally to me—I love having a vision and working to bring it to life.

As I began taking on more complex and larger projects, my husband suggested starting my own business to create a brand and expand the way I envisioned. I truly enjoy connecting with people and help making their wishes turn into reality.

The biggest challenge initially was balancing my new business with my career as a healthcare provider. I knew it was possible because I’d seen colleagues do it, but I wasn’t sure how to go about it. Additionally, my husband and I were new parents, making the juggling act even more hectic at first. I learned that every day begins with a choice. We have the privilege to choose how we approach each day. Not every day will be easy, but by choosing to make things work and taking the necessary steps, anything is possible. It’s all about perspective and the decision to move forward each day.

Keynote Events is not just an event planning boutique; it’s an overall experience. Everyone involved in a special event, no matter the size, is important and should feel that way. I named my business Keynote Events because, just as a Keynote Speaker is the focal point of an event, I want everyone involved in hosting an event to feel like the focal point. They matter not just because they’re clients, but because of who they are as individuals, groups, or businesses.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Breakfast – Unconventional Dinner or The Pembroke.

Late Lunch – Cooper’s Hawk (enjoy a wine tasting followed by lunch or vice versa)

Dinner – Smoke and Mirrors at the Navy Yard

Nightcap – Speakeasies  ‘Off the Record’ or ‘The Mirror’

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Keynote Events, LLC wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the love, support, and a little push from my amazing husband, Kevin. He is my best friend, my muse, my confidant. I’m so grateful for his encouragement and advice, and for letting me take over half of the storage space with my event items and decor. LOL. I’m also thankful for my two heartbeats, Layla and Bellamy, who give me life and are my “Why.”

I also want to give a huge shoutout to my wonderful mentor, Tara Melvin, who pushed me not to give up, especially when business started out slow. She’s always there, encouraging me, supporting my posts, and celebrating my wins. Her mentorship has been invaluable in my journey.

Last but not least, I want to acknowledge my incredible colleagues and friends. They’ve been my biggest shoulders to cry on, my support system, and my loudest cheerleaders. Thank you for continuing to show up and be there for me daily. I love and appreciate you all!
