We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Artkop and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I’m a drum coach, artist, and working musician/producer who plays drums, guitar, bass, and sings. Through my drum coaching, I help students build real confidence through music. I guide them from zero to learning things like technique, reading music, playing grooves and fills, and performing their favorite songs. A lot of people come in believing they’re “not naturally talented,” and it’s powerful to watch that shift once they realize progress is really about guidance and consistent practice.

I try to create a space where people feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and growing. Learning an instrument can be vulnerable, but when someone starts to see real improvement, it often changes how they see their own potential.

Outside of teaching, I’m constantly creating and collaborating as a musician and producer. Whether I’m performing, recording, or writing, the goal is the same: keep music alive, help people connect with it, and show that creativity is something anyone can develop.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a singing drummer and multi-instrumentalist music producer redefining indie-alternative-pop. My music is a sonic adventure, blending the finesse of jazz fusion drumming with the energy and catchy riffs of modern indie pop. Every track I create – guitar, bass, synth, drums, vocals – is self-produced in my spaceship recording studio in Los Angeles. I love crafting songs that aren’t just songs, but experiences that make people feel, think, and reflect.

I’m currently finishing an EP of three songs – the best I’ve ever written – titled Outer Space Brain Waves. It features “Outer Space Brain Waves,” “Black Hole Blues,” and “My Love,” and represents the next era of my music. I’m thrilled to share it with the world in mid-2026.

What sets me apart is that I bring my full musical identity to everything I do. I approach each song as a blend of technical skill, storytelling, and emotional resonance. I’m proud of how I’ve built my sound from the ground up, combining my drumming foundation, multi-instrument skills, and production vision into something distinctly me. I always aim to create something you can’t quite find anywhere else.

Of course, getting here hasn’t been easy. Music demands patience, resilience, and self-belief. I’ve faced self-doubt and uncertainty, but I’ve learned to push through by trusting my instincts, embracing experimentation, and constantly challenging myself to grow. I strive to create the music I wish already existed, and the greatest fulfillment comes from creating something that connects with others, whether through my music or by coaching drums and inspiring students to explore their own creativity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting LA, I’d make sure we hit some of my favorite spots and experiences. For food, I’d take them to my top vegan spots – Ocado for their Caesar Salad and Korean BBQ Beaf Bowl, Lotus Vegan for Orange Chicken and Drumsticks, and Bestie’s Vegan Paradise for their incredible soft-serve – their peanut butter shake is the best.

For sightseeing and entertainment, we’d check out Santa Monica Pier, wander through Universal CityWalk, and take a tour of Universal Studios. And hopefully, we’d catch an awesome show at The Wiltern, one of my favorite music venues in LA.

These spots are some of my favorite ways to experience the city, combining great food, fun attractions, and classic LA vibes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to learn from some amazing mentors throughout my journey. In high school, I studied with legendary drummers Bernard Purdie and Jesse Hameen II, and I also attended the Educational Center for the Arts High School, which really helped shape me early on.

Later, studying at Berklee College of Music had a huge impact on my growth as a musician. I was lucky to learn from incredible teachers including Terri Lyne Carrington, Dave DiCenso, Bob Gullotti, Ralph Peterson Jr., Henrique De Almeida, Tony Thunder Smith, and Kim Plainfield. I’ve also been mentored by the amazing Chris Coleman, whose playing and musicianship continues to inspire me.

All of these mentors helped shape not just my playing, but how I approach music, creativity, and teaching today. I also want to give a huge shoutout to my parents – they brought me to drum lessons, encouraged me to keep playing, and supported my love of music from the moment I was six and told them I wanted to play drums. Their belief in me made everything possible.
