We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Sears-McDonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our brand is originality. We tried to take something we love so much that other people were so familiar with and combine it with baking. Hip Hop to us is life. It raised us. It groomed us into the adults we are today. It got us thru some of the most difficult times and some of the most joyous.

What should our readers know about your business?
We created this business in quarantine 2020. All over a craving for a cinnamon bun we just could not find. What sets us apart is the rawness of our brand. We name each flavor after a different hip hop artist. Every single flavor linked to the artist gets carefully picked and paired so we have a reason for our choices. Were always creating and have so much in store people haven’t even seen yet. I’ve learned a lot of patience with owning a business. That I won’t get where I want to be overnight and that’s ok. I want everyone to know that when you don’t think it’s possible, keep going. Stay true to yourself. It’ll all be worth it in the end.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course, I would for sure hit a few coffee shops that carry our cinnamon buns! Coffee roasters in Sherman Oaks and Blvd CAFECITO in Burbank. For lunch most definitely Boo’s Philly Cheesesteaks (we’re born and raised in Philly). Friday nights for sure would have to check out Vegan Playground at party beer co and then Sunday afternoon, at Smorgasborg DTLA. DTLA was in the process of an extreme makeover before 2020. Its starting to turn, slowly but surely; if you’re feeling adventurous, I’d check out The Varnish on 6th st. The Wayfarer and The Broken Shaker around 8th and Olive are great for the rooftop bars. The Catalina Jazz club on Sunset for some cool music vibes. Melrose is always a good idea for some shopping and then of course the beach as MUCH as possible.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the late nights, the long event hours, the menu making, the holding me together when I didn’t believe in myself is owed to my husband. He’s the best thing to ever happen to me. He’s the reason I am who I am today. The hustle, the drive, the never giving up are all thanks to my parents. I watched them work tirelessly everyday to make sure we had what we needed. Im here to work even harder to make sure they never need for anything. The heart that goes into this business is from my brother.
