We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Giffen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started in my career as a nurse (I recently became a. Nurse Practitioner) I had no balance. I was all work. I was resentful, angry, too tightly wound up, and I was very inflexible. To say the least I was not fun to be around! Lately, in the past year or so I have focused on balance. I am such a better provider, co-worker, friend, daughter, and aunt if I am balancing. I make sure that I do a few fun things a week that are not related to my business or work. My mind has to be completely shut off. I have such an amazing social group right now, and I absolutely love my life- which is pretty amazing to say now. I love the journey I am on and I’m really peaceful. The little things don’t bother me as much. I can go with the flow with the Universe. If things don’t go my way I just let it go and realize it’s not meant to be.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve started my own wellness practice. It sounds kind of cheesy but beauty comes from the inside- it’s an inside job. When you feel good you look good. I want to get clients and people into a higher vibration in life. I specialize in skin perfecting. Having uneven skin tone and unhealthy skin is actually the number one sign of aging over wrinkles. I specialize in doing the most natural look. No one will ever notice that you had anything done but they will say “wow they look so good for their age” or “wow gorgeous”. I made a really long business plan while I was in school finishing my nurse practitioner degree. And then I guess let’s just say the law of attraction made that happen. It’s not easy. It’s a lot of work. I overcome challenges now by praying. This is a really new thing for me. I also over come challenges by taking them as a learning lesson. I’ve learned that it’s baby steps, one day at a time, and to not get too ahead of myself otherwise it feels really overwhelming and not fun. I’ve learned to celebrate all the small wins, and I’ve learned that it’s not the outcome but who I become in the process. I’m really proud of myself. My brand story has a lot to do with my sister Lindsay the passed. It’s just about taking care of yourself because you deserve it. It’s a no guilt feeling. It’s about exciting that inner child within and just having fun.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would go to the Maybourne of Beverly Hills for brunch. I would hike in Mandeville Canyon. I would hit Marina Del Rey for the ocean it’s so peaceful out there. I would take them to cycle bar- it’s so much fun and a such a great workout. I would hit South Beverly Grill for lunch they have the best salads. I would go to Urth Cafe in Beverly Hills for some tea and/or coffee and cute a little snack. I would stop by OMG nails in Beverly Hills because that’s something new since I got in this industry it is a priority to have good nails all the time. They have a structure gel that makes the nail really thick and strong I love it. Right next door is a Thai massage and I would definitely hit that for an hour at least and if I was feeling really good and wanted to spoil myself I would do 90 minutes. I would for sure hit up the Wi Spa and spend a good 4 hours if not more relaxing, steaming, and doing one of their body scrubs. Dinner would be at the Above Sixty Rooftop. I love a good roof top! After hiking and cycling I would definitely need to get my body back into proper alignment and release some tension so I would go over an see Raphe Rose in Marina Del Rey for some acupuncture and relaxation. Her cupping is the best.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve definitely been influenced and mentored by people. I’ve honestly been really lucky. Things just fell into place for me. Nurse Jamie has been a mentor to me. She’s amazing. She’s an amazing practitioner, boss, mom, and business owner. She’s so smart and level headed. She gets the business and isn’t dramatic about things. She’s understood that part of the process is that I am going to make mistakes and allowed a safe environment for me. I work with all women- we all get along, there is no drama, and it’s so much fun. We are all supportive of one another and not to mention we are in LA. That’s huge. It’s like what the heck? How did you create this awesome environment? It’s Nurse Jamie and it starts with leadership. Love and encouragement comes from my mom. I call her almost every day. And my grandpa. He’s always telling me that the hard work will pay off if I’m feeling down or I don’t know my next move. I have a special doctor in my life that’s been throughout a lot with me, they aren’t even in the field of aesthetics, but they wouldn’t let me quit. I have my acupuncturist Raphe Rose that’s been there for me when I need to reset, rejuvenate, and take care of my body so I can raise my vibration and get back on the grind. I’ve always always been a huge fan of Tony Robbins, I love his stuff, I can easily change my perspective and see where my progress has been.
