We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Featherson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
There are so many habits that lead to success but the top ones that contributed to my success are organization, prioritizing, self-care, and reading. 1)Organizing- When I set goals and make plans to accomplish those goals, I get more done and feel less stressed or overwhelmed. I write everything down; something as simple as grocery lists can lead to success. For example, I waste a lot of time looking around the store without a list versus having one, getting the groceries done quicker. I now have more time to put towards personal or career goals. 2)Prioritizing- This is in line with organizing. We all have things to complete and sometimes we may put a lot on our plate. Taking the time out to arrange tasks by priority helps productivity. 3)Self-care – this is so important because success doesn’t last without maintaining overall health. A few of my self care activities include exercising, meal prepping to maintain a healthy diet, and meditating. 4) Reading- increasing knowledge is a major key. There’s always more to learn.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
People are really fascinated when they hear me say my background is food science. It’s a unique skill to have and there’s so much you can do with it. I’m proud of what I’ve contributed to the food industry and excited about using that skill to help the community holistically. I have so many ideas and plans that I can’t go into detail about, but definitely can’t wait to share. Not only does being a food scientist set me apart from others, but bringing awareness to psoriasis does as well . The instagram name ‘Spottie too Hottie’ catches people attention alone. It wasn’t always easy to publicly discuss or be so open about Psoriasis. The journey went from being ashamed or closed off to confident and embracing whatever phase I’m in. It took self love, healing, and just not caring what others think to overcome the lows and challenges of living with something that wasn’t considered the standard of beauty. I learned that we all are unique or may have things we want to change but our attitude towards the cards we’re dealt makes the difference. You control the narrative or it’ll control you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being that I haven’t lived here long, I’m still learning so much about LA but I’ve had a chance to enjoy a few places. My favorite so far is Leimert Park. It’s a historic neighborhood in south Los Angeles that offers so much culturally and considered a cultural hub for African-Americans. There’s always festivals and events held there, so many food options and shops/vendors. My favorite store is Nappily Naturals. Simply Wholesome is a good health food restaurant and store.
You can never go wrong with the beach – Santa Monica, Venice, Long Beach pier are really nice whether you just want to hang out and site see, grab food/drinks, or activities.
Hollywood Blvd- There are so many cool restaurants/bars and attractions in Hollywood.
Last but not least, Runyon canyon is great to get a nice workout and scenery to make it well worth it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends deserves recognition for supporting and encouraging me to keep going. I would also like to specifically dedicate my shoutout to my late father, Anthony Featherson. He was my biggest force and drive. He always pushed me to be my best, to love myself, and to never settle for anything less than what I deserve.
