Meet Lisa Templer | Owner/GM/Founder/CEO/Inspired, Mission-focused Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Templer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In my career, I was presented with an opportunity to take a significant risk—and I went for it. I was well aware of the classic advice: “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” and “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.” But sometimes, you just have to trust your instincts and follow your heart. I truly believed in my vision and felt confident that my business would take off.
The journey hasn’t been as smooth or as fast as I initially hoped. In fact, I faced some tough setbacks, including the loss of a commercial property. There are moments when I question my decision, and yes, sometimes I feel regret. But despite the challenges, my belief in the potential of my business remains unshaken. I’m convinced that, with time, my efforts will pay off and my business will grow beyond my expectations.
Looking back, I realize that taking risks is an essential part of growth. Every setback has taught me valuable lessons and strengthened my resolve. I know that one day, I’ll see this risk as the catalyst that led to my eventual success. Sometimes, things just take time—and I’m committed to seeing this journey through.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the world to know that you can achieve anything if you put your heart into it. When God gives you a vision, trust it—pour your heart into that vision, and your mind will soon follow. Once your mind is aligned, you have the power to manifest your dreams into reality.
I’ll be honest: it does take money to make money. Stay consistent with “stacking your bread,” and when the time is right, go for it! But be wise—allocate your resources carefully. Don’t overspend or waste money on things you don’t truly need. Budget as much as possible, because I learned quickly that money goes fast. If I could do one thing differently, it would be to hold off on unnecessary purchases and prioritize spending. Sometimes, it’s hard to decide what comes first—the chicken or the egg—but it’s crucial to limit spending and always negotiate for the best price.
This journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve put in years of blood, sweat, and tears—often with no pay. You have to be willing to sacrifice and keep pushing forward, even when it feels impossible. The biggest challenge I overcame was the feeling of defeat. I never gave up, no matter how hard things got. There were times when I felt sad, depressed, and even wanted to quit—but I kept going. That’s my advice: **Never give up.** Life is a roller coaster, full of ups and downs. Enjoy the ride, work hard, and remember to play when you can.
If you have a dream, nurture it. Stay focused, stay humble, and never stop believing in yourself. The journey won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
Lastly, I’ve learned that things don’t have to be perfect. As a perfectionist, this was a tough lesson for me. Sometimes, I had to put my pride aside, accept things as they are and just keep pushing. Progress is better than perfection, and sometimes the most important step is simply not giving up, even when things aren’t exactly how you envisioned them. Embrace the losses and most importantly learn from them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I truly love experiencing life’s simple pleasures. I’m a big fan of delicious, enriched food and enjoy trying new restaurants whenever I can. Give me a good quality steak and lobster, and I’m in heaven—seafood will always have my heart! There’s nothing better than relaxing by a beautiful beach, ocean views , soaking in the peaceful vibe with some soft jazz or slow jams playing in the background.
What I cherish most, though, are good vibes and the company of genuine, down-to-earth people. It’s rare to find true authentic souls these days, so when I do, I hold onto those moments and appreciate them dearly.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible people who have stood by my side throughout this journey. My success is not mine alone—it’s the result of unwavering support, encouragement, and belief from my team, my friends, and my family.
First and foremost, my family has been my foundation. My mom Mary, and stepdad Tim, have always been there for me, offering guidance and love. My brothers, Eddie, Timmy, and Mikey, and more family—Aunt Nancy, Lori, Aunt Susie, Maile, Grandpa Bill and Aunt Pat—have all played a huge role in my life and my success.
To my team at the tow yard, Templers—Jeff, Gil, Asied, Miguel, and Kyle—thank you for your hard work, dedication, and loyalty. You are more than just colleagues; you are family that helped me every step of the way.
I am also incredibly grateful to all the investors who believed in MyBoat2 during the friend and family round: Debbie, Justin, Bo, Emil, Denise, Granny Dorothy, Dealer Dave, Fram, Alma, and a very special thanks to my two largest investors, Tom and Paul. Your faith in my vision means the world to me.
To my best friend Liz, and my dear friends Diana, Samson, Fats, Katie, Tati, and my sister Shaleema—My friends Lance, Jay, and Clinton in Africa! My colleague Gbenga, I didn’t forget about you. Thank you for your constant encouragement and for always being there when I needed you.
Most importantly, my three amazing kids—Robert, Nylah, and Amariah—you are my greatest motivation and my biggest inspiration. You have shaped me into the mother and woman I am today, and your encouragement keeps me moving forward, no matter the challenges.
To my cousins Cass, Kayla, Christopher, Trisha, AJ, and all of my wonderful nieces and nephews—Gianna, Brysen, Jalen, Sienna, Little Eddie, Millie, Jojo, Ciara, Bella, Nazir, Miyon, Cameron, and Cori—thank you for your love and support.
I appreciate each and every one of you more than words can express. I truly could not have done this without you. Thank you for believing in me and for being a part of this journey!
