We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz August and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After a fulfilling but demanding decade as a teacher, I found myself seeking more. I ventured into a part-time gig as a professional organizer alongside teaching. I took a one-year maternity leave when I had my child and decided to see if organizing could support my family. However, the physical toll combined with my chronic pain was a bit much. I was still making it work when I pivoted towards virtual assistance, realizing the potential to create something significant. My guiding thought throughout was really, “I think I can do this.” And so, I did! My dad says I have a lot of gumption and I think that really has brought me far.
What should our readers know about your business?
Simplify, Simplify is not your typical virtual assistance agency. We’re your backstage team and we’re rockstars at it. What sets us apart? It’s not just about getting things done; it’s about infusing soul and strategy into every task. We don’t just help your business, we become a part of your team.
The journey wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Coming from a decade-long teaching career, I plunged into professional organizing, but my health nudged me toward the virtual space. Building an agency had its challenges, but the belief that “I can really do this” kept me going.
Proudest moment? Seeing clients not just succeed but thrive with our support. Lessons learned? Embrace innovation, value collaboration, and reliability is the bedrock.
Simplify, Simplify is more than a service; it’s a sisterhood, a support system.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shoutouts to those who fueled my journey! First and foremost, Monica Rodgers of The Revelation Project — my first virtual assistance client and the one who revealed the potential of turning my genius and skills into a thriving business. Huge gratitude to my biz bestie, Lisa Zawrotny of Positively Productive, for being my daily anchor through voice chats and weekly calls. And a special thank you to my husband, Peter, for his unwavering support, shouldering extra responsibilities at home so I could focus on growing the business. They’re the real MVPs.
