Meet Liz Letchford | PhD and Movement Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Letchford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to work myself into the ground, juggling my research and business while desperately trying to maintain some semblance of a social life. I thought I was happy, but in reality, I was just avoiding addressing my shadows by keeping busy and distracted. It wasn’t until I reached a state of burnout that I was able to pause and truly reevaluate my priorities. Now, I find time every day for joy and play. Tapping into my creative energy and expression through my friendships and hobbies allows me to show up fully in my work. Instead of steamrolling through my week, I find little moments to enjoy pause and stillness, a quiet that allows me to refuel and reignite the fire I have for my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When it comes to pain and injury, the people that seek me out are the ones who have tried it all. They recognize that any illness or injury in the body requires a multi-faceted approach and a practitioner who is willing to listen to their entire story.
When I am first working with someone, I let them know that I will address their movement dysfunction and symptoms from the anatomical and physiological level: addressing any underlying joint issues, injuries or suboptimal biomechanics. I then explain to them that if we find that the pain or discomfort isn’t entirely explained by the physical body, then we will investigate the emotional body. Often times, pain and dysfunction can be created or exacerbated by poor stress management and unprocessed emotions.
It took some time before I felt comfortable sharing both toolkits with the world. I felt pressure to lean to one side or the other – always finding myself too scientific for the holistic world and too “feelsy” for the medical world. Once I embraced that the unique combination of intuition and science was what helped people in a deeply profound way, I began diving deeper into both biomechanics and neuroscience research to refine my knowledge and my practice.
The more I follow my truth and stay away from trying to imitate anyone else, the more confident I feel in myself and my work.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank Emmy Bush for recognizing the fire in me and pushing me to take the break that reignited my passion.
