We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Mina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I made the decision to pursue a career in acting because I genuinely cannot fathom doing anything else in life. A really popular piece of advice I hear all the time when it comes to acting is, “If you can picture yourself doing anything else, then do that instead.” I can’t, so I decided to jump in head-first and dedicate myself to it fully. Living a creative life is so fulfilling and fun, even though it comes with a lot of disappointment and heartache.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say I’m still just getting started in my artistic journey, but I’m really proud of myself for sticking with it and not giving up when things have gotten tough. Up-and-coming actors lost a little over a year’s worth of opportunities when productions shut down during the pandemic and a lot of us moved home or pivoted careers during that time. I’m proud of myself for dedicating that time to class, leveling up my self-taping skills, and staying involved with the community of artists I had built before the world shut down. Once the major studios agree to SAG-AFTRA and the WGA’s reasonable terms and start paying artists what they deserve, I look forward to continuing to audition for amazing projects and growing my passion more and more.

I would love the world to know that most actors are in it not because of ambitions for fame or money, but because of a genuine love of the art. I think a lot of people look at us and think we’re living sad lives because we’re stuck jumping from day job to day job as non-creatives advance in their corporate careers, but living a creative life is extremely fulfilling and I like to think a lot of us wouldn’t have it any other way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My absolute favorite activity in the world is going out to eat. I love bonding with people through food and think sharing a meal with someone is such a great opportunity to connect. We’d absolutely have to go to one of my favorite restaurants in LA, Etta in Culver City, which I believe originated in Chicago. We would also definitely be going to Oste in West Hollywood for mussels and french fries, Manchego in Santa Monica for tapas and wine, and Pine and Crane in Silverlake for delicious Taiwanese food.

For a night out I’d take them to Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood, which is this really cool Russian bar with a DJ and dance floor in the back room.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My two best friends, Rebekah and Ty, give me so much encouragement and love that I can’t imagine living without. I tend to have my head in the clouds, and they do a really great job of supporting my ambitions while also bringing me back down to earth. They’re always there to reassure me if I start doubting myself or offer advice if I feel lost. I definitely think I’m going to have those two in my corner for life.
