We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Murtagh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, how does your business help the community?
At LMB Boutique, success is measured in community impact, not just sales. Liz Murtagh has woven philanthropy into the fabric of her business, directing support to vital local organizations like Dunedin Cares, the Homeless Empowerment Program, Diamonds and Denim’s SFBH Foundation, suicide prevention programs, and groups aiding children with special needs. It’s a philosophy that transforms her shop from a mere retail space into a true community asset.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Liz Murtagh had a circuitous journey. One experience led her to the next. Murtagh was initially a schoolteacher whose husband was frequently transferred for work. As a result, she had to start over everywhere they went. She decided to teach herself how to become an interior designer through correspondence courses at the Sheffield School of Interior Design, where the curriculum also included information on starting a business. Once Murtagh finished at Sheffield, she was in Connecticut. There, she started her interior design business, secured clients right away, and operated that business for a few years until they were transferred to Arizona. While in Arizona, Murtagh started an interior design business and flourished there for several years until her husband’s transfer led them to Tampa, FL.

At that point, with two little kids at home, Murtagh decided to take up painting since she had always been creative and believed she could master it. Thus, she attended workshops at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center and taught herself, eventually becoming a very skilled artist and selling her artwork.

Finally, in 2010, Murtagh opened LMB Boutique as part of a dream to bring the quality merchandise that she found on her trips traveling around the country back home to her clients. At LMB Boutique, Liz Murtagh believes true style is about discovery, not trends. That’s why she travels far and wide, hand-picking a limited quantity of exceptional items from hidden gems around the globe. This isn’t about one-of-a-kind pieces; it’s about thoughtfully curated collections that ensure your finds will be a reflection of your individuality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First place first is the LA Fashion District and any local truck shows to find some cool pieces for LMB Boutique, followed by lunch in downtown LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
After a celebrated decade, LMB Boutique is known for its one-of-a-kind finds, exceptional service, and the passionate leadership of longtime manager and creative force Judy Tily. Building on this rock-solid legacy, owner Murtagh is now setting sights on an exciting new chapter, growing the brand’s footprint through digital expansion.
