We had the good fortune of connecting with Lonely Richard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lonely, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My name is Will and I co-front Lonely Richard with Alex Carr.

Alex and I have been best friends going on 23 years, which means our music tastes developed together. At age 10 we were listening to Bowie. We graduated to the Velvets in high school and then when I was a sophomore, Alex, ruined my life by introducing me to Elliot Smith’s Either/Or. Our mutual obsession with a certain kind of sad bastard music kind of set us on the path.

Oh and we’re both originally from New York City!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We just released a new single last month called ‘Hand in the Paint’ and we’re currently mixing our new record tentatively titled ‘Love You, Miss You’, that will be released in early May.

Our sound sometimes veers experimental and lo fi, but is still extremely grounded in pop structures. I think Alex and I both agree that this project is still in a very nascent stage… at this juncture, we just want to put out a ton of music and play out as much as possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man. Night one we’d start with a martini and steak frites at Taix followed by drinks at Cafe Triste… and then perhaps a show at the Orpheum, Belasco or Ace Hotel (or whatever that theater is called now).

We’d also have to make time for a trip to Maury’s Bagels, maybe a Dodgers Game depending on the season and most certainly a Griffith Park pilgrimage.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our brothers, Archer, Harry and Sam are kindred creative spirits that have always kept us honest. They’re the first people we send our demos to and are all very talented musicians in their own right.
