We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenzo Cosci and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorenzo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
This is a brilliant question. It touches on a fundamental topic in modern society. We are taught from an early age to strive for security, pushed to fit into the universally accepted mold of getting a college degree, a stable job, starting a family, raising your kids to fit into the same mold and, eventually, die. My opinion is that being able to take risks is, perhaps, the most important aspect of anyone’s attitude. Life is whatever you make of it, and there’s no way around it: taking risks is a necessary step to reach your goals.
Before I decided to start my own music and sound design production company, SIIX Trailer Music and Sound, I had a really well paid, stable job in London. As happy as I was with my salary and the benefits and comfort that come with said salary, I simply wasn’t happy. Nonetheless, I was scared of leaving a job like that, a salary like that: I was scared of giving up all I had reached with years of hard work.
So I truly get how scary taking risks can be, but I never let the fear of uncertainty stop me. I went ahead, quit my job and started working harder than ever on building my company from the ground up. Six years later, I have worked on over 130 movie marketing campaigns, producing music and sound design for all the major blockbuster movies coming out of Hollywood.
In my humble opinion, not taking any risks and always taking the safe road might just be the most risky thing you could ever do.
So, pure and simple, take that leap of faith.
You won’t regret it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My company, SIIX Trailer Music and Sound, which I founded back in 2016, is a music production company that focuses primarily on creating music and sound design for movie, series and videogame trailers. One thing that I’m extremely proud of, is the extensive research that we did before producing our first music tracks. We took several months, analyzed an insane amount of music and trailers, all the while keeping an eye open for any room for improvement that we could find. We eventually reached a point where we were confident that we could do a better job than a lot of established trailer music companies, and finally started working on our very first album. After that, we faced another issue that seem insurmountable: the trailer world is a very niche, closed industry. All the major trailer houses, and consequently all the major studios, are used to rely on the few companies that they know and trust, therefore it was very difficult to get a ‘foot in the door’ at first. But, one thing that myself and Julia never lacked, is initiative: we flew to LA for a month, all the way from London, rented a van that we used both as means of transportation and a place to sleep, and went around pitching our first album to all the trailer houses. Being very young (we were both 23 at the time), I think some of them just felt sympathy for us and decided to actually listen to the album, and that’s where all the research and hard work paid off: our music was at the same level, if not better, than the music being released by established trailer music companies. I remember the general surprise, almost shock, that we generated in trailer editors and music supervisors. Thanks to that trip, we got a sync in the movie Logan and, two months later, a massive one in Blade Runner 2049. It’s safe to say that, from that point on, we never looked back!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, since I was born in Italy, I have an insatiable passion for Italian food. A couple of restaurants I would suggest are L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele, in the heart of Hollywood, Osteria Mamma, on Melrose Avenue, and Desano, a pizza place in East Hollywood. I’m a huge fan of live music, so I’d definitely suggest checking out some niche music venues, like Black Rabbit Rose and Dirty Laundry, as well as more established ones, such as The Troubadour, The Viper Room and Whiskey A Go Go. On a Saturday, if someone is looking for a down to earth, easy going place, I’d highly recommend Artista Tattoo Studio in Hollywood, they have live music all night long combined with tattoos and cheap drinks!
During the day there is also so much to do in LA, but the thing I appreciate the most about the city is the oceanside: check out Santa Monica, Venice Beach and Malibu, but also the beach communities of Hermosa and Laguna Beach – you won’t regret it!
Finally, if you’re passionate about reading and books in general, don’t miss The Last Bookstore in Downtown LA!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, first and foremost, my business partner, Julia Wahle. I couldn’t have built what SIIX has become without Julia’s input, knowledge and passion. She is never afraid of anything, she is motivated, creative and truly a rockstar when it comes to trailer music! Secondly, a shoutout to my family; I truly could not have asked for a more supportive, encouraging and loving family.
Thirdly, I’d like to mention my friends in Buti, my hometown back in Italy, for always making me feel as welcome as if I never left!
Finally, a shoutout to my old self: thank you for believing this was possible and giving it your all – much appreciated!
