We had the good fortune of connecting with Lost Lyrics and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lost, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that risk is essential to growing out of your comfort zone. Risk does come with sacrifices but without pain, theirs no gain. I risked driving my 2001 Toyota Camry, that had over 200,000 miles, from Houston Texas to Los Angeles California. I did not know if I was going to make it but I knew if I arrived in Los Angeles, great things would happen.
I slept in my car for 4 months and I was working 80 hours a week doing security and bouncer work. I saved up my money and eventually moved to a studio with 3 other people. The first week I dropped a comedy video and it blew up. After that, things started rolling in.
End of the day risk is necessary for growth. The most important thing is having a foundation outside of this world to rely on when things get rocky.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting with the comedy, I do comedy based in foreign culture. I take problems that happen in the community and flip it in a way people can laugh and reflect on what is going on.
With music, I believe my lyrical capabilities sets me part as I try to paint a picture for the listener to feel what I am saying.
I am most proud about when people contact me saying my comedy helps their mental health. Many people hit me up and say my videos helped them with suicidal thoughts.
I got to where I am by releasing videos on Instagram and Twitter. I eventually leveraged into some comedy shows in Canada. I haven’t done many yet due to Covid but iA it will happen.
It was definitely not easy.. Monetizing and working a lot was very hard while trying to be creative. I was struggling with food addiction and carried a heavy weight too. I dealt with them by having faith and losing weight. I try to master my body as much as I can. Losing weight changed my life.
I have learned that patience, preparation, preservation, and faith will get you through anything in this life time.
I want the world to know that I will be healing trauma through drama.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to little Ethiopia first. I would take them to a spot called Mesob. The injera over there is amazing. I would take them to the Culver City stairs. It’s a beautiful hike with an amazing view.
I would also take them to Runyon canyon. It’s another hike with a beautiful view.
I would take them to a outside hookah spot called Emma. They also have amazing food and music.
The most fun thing to do to me is hiking. Hiking to me gives you that rush of endorphins and satisfaction when you see the view at the end.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would want to dedicate my shout out to Benu Endriyas. He was the first one to believe in the comedy and spent time recording the videos.
I would also dedicate my shout out to my brother Robell. He always encouraged me and pushed me through the hard times.
