We had the good fortune of connecting with LouLou D’vil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LouLou, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Finland and I started my career as performance artist in 2008. Finland has a very accepting culture so I always felt free to do what ever I wanted. We also appreciate hard work, quality and persistence and those elements have definitely helped me to become one of the world’s renowned burlesque artist. Now after 13 years on stage, I’m taking steps as a writer, director and producer. I have never been afraid to explore new paths and this is how my poetic-erotic storytelling concept Cocoon was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a burlesque artist for 13 years now, flying more than 17 times around the world to various events. My career started in Finland as one of the first burlesque artists over there and after only 5 years, I won the world’s largest burlesque competition at Burlesque Hall of Fame as the first European artist. I moved to US on 2015, swing headlining in Las Vegas show “Pin up” before moving to New York on 2018. The road has definitely not been easy but it’s a lifestyle you commit to 100%. Nobody in their smart mind would do this if they didn’t really love what they do!

Nowadays I still perform but only in very few, selected venues that I love working in. My priority is to establish myself more as a storyteller, director and producer. Cocoon saw its daylight on April 2021 and it has been a great artistic success, selling out the first 6 week run when NYC wasn’t even fully open yet. This poetic eroticism and culinary experience takes its guests to the world of contemporary rope bondage in its first story called “Reflections”.

I’m very proud of this production taking place at beautiful Duane Park NYC. It really has tought me to never stop dreaming and working hard. Never in my wildest dreams did I see that I would be an international performer for so long but also write & produce my own show in NYC!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course I would recommend them to come and see our show Cocoon! 😉 But I would also take them to few special places like Chelsea hotel, The Box, House of Yes, roller skating in central park and all the art museums. There’s so much to do in NYC that the list is never ending!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Many people have helped and inspired me to become who I’m today. But I’m going to give my shout out to my love, Daniel D’Ottavio who couraged me to start writing my own poetic-erotic stories during the pandemic. His love and belief towards me and my art has been the most important part of my transformation from a performer to a director.
