We had the good fortune of connecting with Lua de Morais and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lua, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?

To do what I love: sing, create, tell stories, educate, communicate through my acting or writing etc., To know I’ve inspired somebody else in any way makes me feel there is a purpose or meaning to my life, & that makes me feel special.
To me, if I don’t feel I’m making a difference in one way or another, life feels empty, meaningless.

Also to see my kids happy doing what they love, fills my heart with joy as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I sing since I can remember. My mom has photos of me at the age of 2 singing on national television in Brazil, where I’m originally from. I started writing songs around the age of 12 after my stepfather passed away, He was a musician and made music be a very important part of my life; yet, I released my first album as a songwriter only at the age of 28, after winning a contest in Chile. After that first album, I never stopped recording and releasing music. Years later I became one of the lead voices for the biggest children’s YouTube channel in South America (#2 in the world: “El Reino Infantil”). At the end of last year (2022), I decided to create my own kids show for Youtube called “Playbug” where I teach Spanish, Portuguese & English to preschoolers through music and bed time stories as “Mel”, who has the cutest puppet friends. I’m specially proud of this project since I work with my own kids, (my daughter (22) being my music producer and my son (20), being one of the VO actors (“Leo”). (Playbug on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@PlayBugKids)

In 2016 I published my first book in Chile called “NUA, Voz del Silencio” that later inspired a musical play called “Actitud Femenina”, where I got the chance to act with my daughter and other amazing female artists in Chile. We are about to release the album in December of this year (2023) and are planning on presenting it again next year with a new cast, and in a near future translate it to English and present it in the US.

During pandemic I translated my poetry book to English & Portuguese with the help of my father who is a wonderful poet in Brazil, and released it last year here in Los Angeles, where I now live. I am very proud of this new trilingual book, though it’s a new version of the first, it has collaborations from other artists from all over the globe, art from my own children & other surprises. (It’s available on Amazon, and there is an Audiobook version on Audible as well.)

I’m preparing two new productions for this coming month of September: a new theatrical play concert I wrote about my life, having been born and raised in a cult, where I wasn’t allowed to dream on becoming an artist amongst having other many limitations…I’m so proud to finally be able to tell my story through “WINGS; it’s Legal to Dream”, where I unite my acting skills, my poetry and music to hopefully inspire the audience to dream and not take any obstacles as a reason to give up. This will be on September 23rd at “The Zula Den”.

I’m also finally putting a female band together that I’ve been wanting to do since moving to LA, where we will perform original songs fusing pop with jazz, Bossa Nova and more. We actually have our first debut on September 28th in Harvelle’s (Santa Monica).

I’m grateful to be alive and be free to do what I love, I wish people would know how lucky they are to be able to make their own choices, I can understand why it’s easy to take that for granted, yet for me Freedom is what I cherish the most, and I just want to be able to use this gift to the best of my ability while doing what I love and making the world around me smile and connect with their emotions, something I believe the planet is lacking the most.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Definitely the many gorgeous beaches we have, one week wouldn’t be enough to see all of them! I love the Marina, in Marina del Rey for an afternoon walk, or the Venice canals; at night I’d take them to some of my favorite spots to watch live music, (Harvelle’s in Santa Monica, Black Rabbit Rose Cafe in Hollywood, to name a few); the Culver Hotel for evening drinks, because of it’s beauty & history…Venice is always fun and has many good spots to eat, the board walk in Santa Monica to see people, or the promenade for the live performances you can experience.

This town is full of magic and I love the fact that there is people from all over the world. The Verse is amazing, their food, their jazz, so is Vibrato, Catalina, etc., I’d need at least a month to show them everything, as well as to visit the museums, go on hikes, etc. -This must be one of the most amazing cities in the world!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My kids, Sharon (22) & Lian (20). They’ve always supported and loved me unconditionally. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be here.
