We had the good fortune of connecting with Luca Nemolato and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luca, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For me Art is a calling, I was born an Artist and there is nothing else I would have wanted to do in life more than pursuing art. Since I can remember I’ve been able to draw and it’s been the driving force behind any decision in my life. The urge to do art is always been greater than everything else and been able to make a living out of it was my main goal so that I could still do the thing I love most in life and pay my bills at the same time. The love for Storytelling it’s also been one of the factors that drove me into working for the entertainment industry, the ability to transport the audience into never seen before worlds with fantastical characters and creatures it’s always been fascinating to me. I feel lucky that I’be been able to have a career in this field so far.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To start my career I had to move from Naples, Italy to Los Angeles in 2012. I started with attending design classes at the Gnomon School of VFX in Hollywood before been able to land in free Internship at a design company. The road wasn’t easy, I was an immigrant and I needed to get the right Visa to be able to work. That was a journey on it’s own, at 19 years old I had to overcome obstacles I never thought I would face at that age. But my passion and conviction was strong every day, I was happy that I was pursuing what I loved to do, so I didn’t let anything stop me. One of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is not trust a handshake in a business deal, most people out there are just looking out for themselves and it doesn’t matter if they see you sleep in hostels or couches to get by, they’ll screw you over if they need to. To this day I believe in doing business the right way, I don’t want to me like one of those people, integrity is key to me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take a friend to the little area in Beverly Hills called Beverly Cañon Gardens, it’s such a pretty spot with a lounge cafe that reminds me of the italian riviera. I love taking my time there to have a drink and relax. Another must go spot would be my friend’s little food place in Silverlake called Ceci’s , they make the best italian food to go and can’t be missed. From there I would definitely bring my friend to a hike on Runyon Canyon and get the best view of LA from there. The last stop would definitely be a surfing day in Malibu followed by a poke ball or some fish tacos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to my mentors Jerad S. Marantz and Constantine Sekeris, they have guided me over the years into becoming a better artist and designer. I’ve always looked up to their work so been able to call them friends and mentors it’s an honor for me.
