Meet LUCAS RECCHIA | Furniture designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with LUCAS RECCHIA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LUCAS, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started designing furniture, I was still at university and I never imagined that it would become a business and take on the proportions that it has. So it started more as a desire to do something and little by little opportunities came along and the business took the shape it has today
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe that my work begins when I become interested in a certain material or a certain artisanal production process. From there I understand how to apply my gaze to that material and create a piece, and this evolves and changes as I get closer and understand the technique that is being applied to develop that piece. Over the last five years since I started my career, my effort has been to evolve and mature these products into more complex pieces that are increasingly closer to the concept of collectible design
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born in the south of Brazil and ten years ago I moved to São Paulo, a huge city that is restless 24 hours a day. I would definitely take someone visiting the city to see the city downtown, which has been undergoing a renovation after years of abandonment and now has an effervescent nightlife. I’d visit Masp, São Paulo’s art museum with incredible architecture by Lina Bo Bardi and an incredible collection of artworks, and I’d have dinner in Liberdade, a traditional Japanese neighborhood with the best Japanese food in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I had two people who represented a turning point in my career, Sonia Diniz who is a design enthusiast in Brazil and was the first person to invest in my work and present my first collection in 2019. And the second was Rossana Orlandi who generously opened the doors of her gallery in Milan and presented my work to a series of European collectors who made my work known all over the world.
