We had the good fortune of connecting with LüChi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LüChi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Tanking risks for us, in one way looks like us purely pulling off the ruse that we are truly twin drag queens! The fact that our whole brand, we host a monthly virtual show on Twitch.tv/lifewithluchi called TWINSday, is based off the idea that we are twins when we’re not, is a major risk, and one that no one is really doing right now. An early inspiration for the twin vibe began with our own individual obsession with Koren social and pop culture. We’re a couple, and in Korea PDA is illegal, which lead to couples dressing alike or twinning as a subversive way to indicate that they are an item. We thought that that was legit the cutest thing and began dressing alike in our casual everyday outfits, which then eventually spurned the idea of translating it to the performance art sphere as a drag duo. Another constant inspiration for our twin brand are actual twin influencers like the Clermont Twins and icons Tia & Tamera, and musical acts like Chloe x Halle, VanJess, and St. Beauty. Another way risk manifests itself for us is literally stepping out our door everyday. As two queer trans black individuals, the constant threat of violence is something we as Queer Trans Black Indigenous People of Color (QTBIPOC) have, against our will, had to become accustomed to carrying with us everyday in this country. The unsettling fact that people who look like us in this country and the world at large are disappearing, being murdered, and being served injustices makes our everyday existence a risk. This will always be a risk to our lives and our career unless we dismantle the systems that uphold and perpetuate the grotesque idea of white, cis, supremacy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
LüChi began as a celebration of the love that we have for each other but evolved into a celebration of the love that we have for community. We take pride in actively creating, maintaining, celebrating, fostering, and occupying space for, by, and in service to the QTPOC community and it’s intersections. When you come to a LuChi performance/show expect, queer trans black excellence, space-pop-punk-rockstar drag, and a space for celebrating the beauty of QTPOC culture. Who are you? Who are we? We’re LüChi!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we had the pleasure of taking you out for a day in the Emerald City (Seattle, WA), we’d start at Chi’s day job (drinks on them), Espresso Vivace; legit the best espresso this side of the milky way! After our doppios we’d head to our favorite brunch spot on Capitol Hill, Americana. She’s tucked into a bustling broadway market that makes brunch seem like your in the french quarter of New Orleans indulging in the most perfectly crisped french toast with sliced seasonal fruit. And to finish, we’d invite you over for a home cooked meal from Chi, drinks, and a live filming of a music video or our virtual monthly TWINSday!! All ending in a dance party with an immaculate playlist curated by yours truly!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our shoutout goes to each individual member of our kiki ballroom house The Royal House of Noir. Without the support of CarLarans Coles, Randy Ford, Ellison Jennings, and Lain Littlejohn, it would be very hard to feel inspired to do the work we do. Our work is for our people, and they help make that come true. THANKS, FAM <3 <3
