We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucia Towers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is the lifeblood behind all of my successes in life. Life is stagnant if you don’t take risks. You’ll never move forward. You’ll never learn. You’ll never fail. Nobody wants to fail but, hear me out – without failure, there is no success. It has taken years for me to get used to the idea of letting the fear of failure propel me forward. I’ve failed more times than I can count and that is what makes me successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Simply put, I make charcuterie boards in a box and deliver them to folks all over the Los Angeles area. In the beginning of living with my girlfriend, I would make these extravagant charcuterie boards for the two of us. My mother was the one who called me one day and told me I should start selling them. Truth be told, I rejected the idea immediately. It was that fear of failure that told me I couldn’t do it. With the encouragement of my mom and my partner, the idea of starting my own business started to grow on me. And when I looked inward, I knew this would be the right career path for me because I love making people happy. Seeing their excitement when receiving a box. Their eyes widen when they taste a cheese that they love. Or how special they feel when a loved one sends them one of my boxes as a gift. There is no greater feeling. Love is what drives my small business and it’s what will make it successful. Starting a small business is challenging yet exhilarating. I’ve made a lot of mistakes but, when I figure out something that really works, it’s empowering. What has helped me the most is asking for help. Whether it be advice and guidance or asking simple favors like help setting up a website or help with deliveries. Asking for help is not easy for most people but it pays off in the end. I’m a big believer in the saying “my success is your success”. I got to where I am today because of the love and generosity of others. I can only hope that these boxes, my little business, will help pay it forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is one of the most fun cities to show someone around. It’s hard to pinpoint just a few places! I absolutely love showing people around this city. Here’s my favorite itinerary for someone coming to visit: We would start early in the morning with a hiking trail in Griffith Park. We would climb as high as we could until we get to a breathtaking view of L.A. Climbing back down, we’d stop at The Trails for a coffee and pastry – a little reward for a long hike. Taking in the fresh air of the forest around us while we enjoy our post-hike breakfast. If its the weekend, we’d go shopping at Melrose Trading Post followed by a tasty lunch at Blue Jam Cafe. In the evening, we’d catch a local band play at Harvard and Stone end our night dancing our hearts out at The Satellite. Preferably on a night when Gay Asstrology is throwing one of their incredible dance parties. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m on my third read-through of a book called You, The Career by Benjamin Mathes. Ben is an acting teacher here in Los Angeles and a friend of mine. He gifted me his book in a time when I needed it most and I’m continually floored with each passage I read. This book is a holistic approach to being an actor/artist in “the biz”. Although Ben’s book was written for actors and creatives, it has taught me that being successful in any sort of business starts with being a good person. These days, my greatest motivator is my girlfriend, Nicole Ledoux. Having a partner who makes me feel like I can do just about anything, even when I feel like I can’t, I can only soar. Her drive and passion for her own work is an inspiration to me. It’s an honor to have her in my corner and to bask each others’ success.
