We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucy Grey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The Skin Specialist Medical Aesthetics is all about creating a personalized experience where each patient’s natural beauty is enhanced, not altered or exaggerated. What really makes us different is the focus on careful and thoughtful treatments that respect each person’s unique features and goals. I’m proud that my patients trust me to deliver results that look natural and help them feel confident, not overdone.

Starting this business was definitely challenging. I left a secure career in hospital nursing to follow my passion, but it was not without struggles. Medical aesthetics did not offer the kind of in-depth training I needed, so I took it upon myself to seek advanced education including specialized training in Europe where the approach is all about harmony and subtlety. That extra effort has made a huge difference in the success I have built.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to trust my own vision and expertise even when industry trends push toward quick fixes and dramatic changes. Staying true to my values and focusing on patient safety and satisfaction has been so important. It has not always been easy, but the relationships I have formed and the confidence I help my patients find make it all worth it.

What I want people to know about me and The Skin Specialist is that this is not just about treatments. It is about caring for people on a deeper level. I am passionate about educating my patients, setting realistic expectations, and helping them feel great in their own skin. My goal is to change the way medical aesthetics is done, one natural enhancement at a time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Claremont, California for a week, I’d want to show them why I love spending time in this town, especially since my business is here. We’d definitely check out Old Town Claremont because it has such a charming vibe with cute boutiques, unique shops, and some amazing restaurants.

One of my favorite spots is Bardot. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area where I like to grab a glass of wine and a big salad after work or for lunch with friends. It’s a great place to relax, catch up, and enjoy the California sunshine. Claremont is a college town with the Claremont Colleges nearby, so there’s a fun and friendly energy throughout the area.

I’d also take my friend to some local Pilates and yoga studios since wellness is a big part of life here and the tree-lined streets make for a peaceful walk or workout. On the weekends, the Claremont farmers market is a must. It’s a great way to connect with local farmers and artisans and pick up fresh, seasonal produce.

We’d spend the week hanging out in cozy coffee shops, strolling through parks, and trying different restaurants so my friend could really get a feel for what makes Claremont such a wonderful place to work and spend time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Fredy has been my biggest cheerleader from day one. He never doubted me or said opening my own business would be too hard. Instead, he encouraged me every step of the way, especially as I invested so much time and energy into my education and advanced training. Knowing he believed in me and my skills has helped me tremendously. The results I’m able to achieve for my patients really speak for themselves, and I’m grateful to have his support behind the scenes.
