We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucy Liu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve had several businesses in my life and we’re here today to talk about my coaching business. It’s funny how before I started formally coaching, I didn’t even know about life coaching as a career. I was always asked by others how I am so positive, how I stay motivated or why I don’t need support etc. I originally started a personal development blog and turned it into a coaching business after I realized that I have the natural superpower to turn any negative into positives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My biggest challenge in life has always been my own name. Having the same name as a famous celebrity has always hindered me from having confidence. It took me three months to think of a name for my coaching business and when I bossed up, showed up as myself and took ownership in just using my own name with confidence I was able to attract clients. I’ve learned that I am an ex-perfectionist, ex-over-achiever and ex-nobody. Your story is worth sharing even if you feel scared, vulnerable or worse like you’re nobody. Step into your own power and change your narrative!
My coaching style is calm, compassionate, blunt, and empowering. I think it’s easiest to share an actual testimonial from a past client to describe what sets me apart as a great coach.
“If I had to describe working with Lucy in one word it would be: transformational. I started working with Lucy at a time where there was so much on my plate. Every week I have looked forward to working with Lucy one-on-one with her calm yet powerful presence. Before working with Lucy I had no idea where my time was going, I was over-compromising in so many areas and I was feeling overwhelmed. A couple of months later, I can truly say I have simplified my life and schedule to help me focus on things that matter to me. Lucy helped me through goal setting in life and business and gave me the encouragement to take action. I have even transition my business with a few shifts that have felt so much more like me. This is all thanks to Lucy who through her sessions with me helped unblock a lot of things that gave me energy and confidence to make these changes in my life. Thank you, Lucy, for your gifts and sharing them with me!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The reason I love Los Angeles so much is because we get everything in one city: bustling city vibes, ocean calm and majestic mountains.
I would start any morning with a hike overlooking downtown Los Angeles skylines such as Runyon Canyon in Hollywood Hills or The Brand Library Park Trails in Glendale.
A relaxing afternoon calls for a walk or Gondola ride around Naples Island canals in Long Beach. Besides sunbathing on the sand, I also love looking out the ocean bluff views at Point Dume or the cliffside in Palos Verdes. If the day is clear, don’t miss out on many of the city’s high-rise or rooftop restaurants with magnificent LA views.
And nothing beats outdoor dining and shopping in sunny Cali weather at either the Grove or Americana at Brand. And there is so much more! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my gosh, yes, there are too many beautiful souls to thank, alone we can do so little, together we can do so much! But at the moment I’d like to shout out to all my amazing co-authors in the books Asian Women Who Bossup and The Rising Sisterhood, both books just hit #1 Amazon Bestseller.
