We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Resendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luis, how do you think about risk?
I always view risk in terms of wondering what could NOT happen if I do not take a chance on going for something. I view it as minimizing the possibility of life regrets I will reflect on in my final years of life, in not taking a shot at opportunities that might have been.

When I ventured into full time therapy practice in 2017, I knew it was a major gamble that could have detrimentally impacted not only myself but my family. I also thought of how it could launching my own endeavor could pay off dividends as well as not leaving me questioning, “Why didn’t I take the chance to start my own practice all of those years ago?” while knowing the time to do so had very well passed. Thankfully I went with my intuition and never looked back since.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a small group therapy practice based in Riverside CA. We specialize in trauma and men’s mental health. I am exceptionally proud of our work in bringing attention to men’s mental health issues with the ongoing hope to destigmatize this treatment focus and encourage more men to connect with the support they need. I would like the world and men all over dealing with things like anxiety and depression that it is no different in seeking treatment for mental health distress, than it is to go to the doctor to treat a stomach ache. If you have an issue, you seek help…it’s as simple as this.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would begin with breakfast at Shaka’s in South Pasadena with their Great Eggs Incognito being a favorite of mine. We’d then visit the L.A. Farmer’s market to check out some awesome produce and other cool things. We’d then zip over the Guisados in Boyle Heights for some delicious tacos before taking in a few hours at The Getty. We’d then wrap up our day at Ocean Prime Steakhouse for a nice steak dinner much deserved after taking in a small fraction of what the city has to offer while also being stuck in lots of traffic!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends….the people who believed in me (and still do) and helped me see things in myself I never saw before.
