Meet Luisa Alzate | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luisa Alzate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a Latina, It has always been extremely important to me to show the world how beautiful, vibrant and amazing the Latin culture is. So I decided to take funny phrases that we say on our day to day and put them on clothes, Iphone cases, pillow cases, totes, hats, etc so we can able to carry who we are with us and also non-latin people can get this products to show support and love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It has been so fun to go down memory lane and remember the things that all of our moms used to tell us when we were growing up and the phrases that even today we all still say or things that we do and because of that, all of the products has been created with so much love and passion and I hope everyone can feel identified with my products and non Latinos can feel like they are part of this very awesome group!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to start by having lunch somewhere in Los Feliz in an outdoor patio to enjoy the beautiful weather, then drive up to the Griffith observatory and see the sunset and later that night have a little hang out with the rest of my friends so they could all meet. The next day we can spend the afternoon at the Grove and get some Empanadas at Nonna’s in the farmers market and then go to Melrose to shop around and finish the day having dinner at El Coyote which I think it’s such a fun place and the food is so good! At some point I would love to take my friend to the restaurant Messhall for great food and Bar Flores for a fun day drink and definitely we need to spend a whole day at either Universal Studios, California Adventure or Disneyland.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
@wearemitu and @weallgrowlatina has been a big inspiration to me by seeing how great of a job they do representing and acknowledging Latin people and our diverse culture.
The book Rich Dad, Poor Dad absolutely changed my views on how to create a successful business and has pushed me to get out there and make things happen as well as to understand that there’s many more things that needs to be learned other then what we have been taught in school.
My incredible family and boyfriend for all the love and support.
