We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Overstreet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, how do you think about risk?
I have always felt comfortable taking risks with my business because I know this is the path for me. I always put what I make back in the business. I a a firm believer in risks help propel you to the next step.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Kelsey Overstreet was born and raised on the coast of Encinitas, CA. Through her early intimate connection to the ocean, she discovered a passion to paint and express the beauty and power she had experienced among the waves. Since then, her art has evolved to include influences gleaned through extensive, international travel and the practice of yoga and meditation. Upon completion of a bachelor’s degree in Art from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA, Kelsey continued to pursue her passion for the arts by earning a degree in Printmaking at S.A.CI. in Florence, Italy. While studying in Italy, she began to experiment with textiles; and after teaching herself to sew, she had the success of starting a clothing line that was featured in one of the most prestigious boutiques in Florence, as well as in stores across California and the East Coast. In 2011, Kelsey turned a lifelong affinity for jewelry-making into a successful business that has grown into 2018. Giusta Jewelry utilizes ethically mined gems with handmade jewelry for the everyday, active lifestyle. Recently, Kelsey joined the staff of Point Loma University as printmaking instructor, with an MFA from Azusa Pacific University, completed in July 2018. Kelsey is focused on the study and evidence of being present. She is currently researching breath and the power of active noticing, mundane moments, sacred repetition, intuition, impulse, meditation and the mystery of the unknown. Kelsey creates her colorful abstract works of art as semi autobiographical moments to allow the viewer to share in a moment of pause and wonder, an experience that has the power to transform. Kelsey currently lives in San Diego, CA with her husband and two kids.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to visit Laguna Beach once a year and walk the beautiful coastline. I have a secret cove that you have to swim to and I would take my best friend to this secret spot.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am immensely grateful to my husband for his support of my passions. He is a team player and values my work.
