We had the good fortune of connecting with Lunarcode and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lunarcode, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It is in our blood, we all come from families who have some sort of music in their background. We definitely aren’t the 9-5 type of people. We need the freedom to try new things and be creative. Since we were young we all have been involved in music; Our drummer was in band at his school, our singer worked at his school’s radio station, and our guitarist started gigging at the age of 14.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our music is meant to be genre bending. People have described some of our songs as heavy rock, and other songs as Alternative Pop. We also have a song that is more reggae sounding and one that is more funk. All of our influences vary among us, and that’s what is so cool about us as a group. Ronny is from Ecuador, Jason is from Northern California, and Vincenzo is from New Jersey. We all grew up listening to different types of music, but our common ground is rock music. Having an open mind when creating music is what makes the possibilities so much fun. We don’t want to be put in a box of what we should sound like, and that’s something we can all agree on. We got to where we are today after years of work and investments, and we still have only scratched the surface! The music industry is no joke, and it takes a lot more than just having musical talent to make it. To overcome the challenges, you have to continuously build your network of supporters to help get you through the hard times and stay motivated. Don’t forget you can’t do everything or you will burn out. Music is a business and there are lots of moving parts. Find help where you can and focus on what you personally do best.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For drinks you can’t go wrong with the flaming margaritas from El Compadres, and it just so happens to be right across the street from Guitar Center. We love having meetings at this coffee shop called Cafecito Organico Silver Lake. They have great coffee and a nice vibey outdoor patio. For a fun night out hit up La Descarga! Much like our music, they have a fun fusion of influences! It’s a cigar lounge/speakeasy/performance space all in one!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the great bands who influenced us definitely deserve credit. The Foo Fighters, Portugal the Man, Nothing More, Queen, Highly Suspect, Muse, the list goes on and on. Of course, everyone involved in the process of making our music deserves credit. It is a team effort and we couldn’t do it without our producers and friends who support us by showing up.
