We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Pelosi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lydia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is something we always strive for. With 2 kids, life has never felt busier, but it’s also never been more inspiring. We love to make our family/kids a part of our brand. Our 5 year old, Carter, doodles ideas for designs and tells us what he likes. They also love coming with us to see how clothes are made. More and more, Benjamin Franklin’s quote rings true –“If you want something done, ask a busy person.” The busier we are, the better we can manage our time.

What should our readers know about your business?
Gracias California was born out the creative community in Venice. My husband, Andrew, and I would come back from various gatherings, everything from benefit concerts to backyard comedy/jam sessions and talk for hours about the amazing people doing inspiring things around us. We wanted to create a lifestyle company that tapped into that buzz and shared it with a larger audience in hopes it would fire people up. We have endless gratitude for the golden state and find that others do too.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is such an amazing city to explore. Walk around without a destination. Ride a bike. Eat street food. Soak in all of the diversity of people, food, music, events. One of our favorite events is CicLaVia, where the city closes down streets in a certain section of the city to bikes, skating and walking. LA also has such great outdoor access, from hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains to exploring the beach coves of Malibu. As for food, there are too many good taco places to name, and Korean BBQ is the best.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m constantly inspired by all of my friends and our community. Too many people to name. I love to see how many Moms are juggling parenting with creative/entrepreneurial pursuits. There are so many good people doing incredible things, which is what drives us to always keep creating.
