We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyndsay Chollak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyndsay, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
This might sound lame-o, but to be honest habits that helped me to succeed is constantly checking in with myself. To go a little further, being able to trust and rely on me is a habit I had to build. Growing up with all the insecurities every teenager and young adult faces I didn’t realize that I was my best ally. That took many years of struggle and fighting with myself to come to the understanding, I was born with myself and due with myself and to make this thing called life glorious I had to make amends with me.
What is really crazy is this is not taught. My parents definitely did not give me the skills to be a strong and powerful individual. It was always lessons of what NOT to do, or what to AVOID. I get that, but if they helped me to build up me as an individual it might have happened faster.
Haha! In saying that, I have to laugh, because I wouldn’t be where I am without the lessons I was “forced” to learn on my own.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a wealth and success coach for high performing individuals. Most of my clients run successful companies and it is an honour to guide them to places that helps to break through what they perceive their glass ceilings to be. It was a hard and stressful journey to get to where I am. I opened my first business with as big of a bang as I could. My first business was a massive yoga and wellness studio. I have to say that running a business is better than any business degree could offer. It forced me to learn lessons in management, leadership, marketing, sales, financial literacy, customer service and being a mentor for others. I guess you could say I didnt know what I was getting into. I just wanted to teach yoga to as many people as possible! I did that and more.
The first few years of that business were AMAZING. We couldn’t do wrong. Then our landlords became a huge problem when our facility incurred damages from rain flooding. They were supposed to pay for the damages as per our lease agreement. But they didnt and we went to court. $500,000 in debt later we had to close the studio. Not only were they “absent” in court hearings, and simple communication but they were draining our bank account and making up back pay expenses to drain our accounts.
Enevitably we had to close and that is what our lawyers says they are known for, draining bank accounts and not going to trial.

It was disgusting. My husband and I had two little ones during this terrible time to raise and a business to keep a float. We were drowning mentally, physically, and spiritually.
I have never experienced such stress in my life.
Closing the studio was a relief but in many ways it wasn’t. I didn’t open a yoga studio to be taken advantage of, lose everything and have to close?!

I made it my vow that I would help others succeed so NO ONE would have to experience the hard ship and pain I had to experience. And that is why I do what I do today.

And that is where building the habit of having your own back comes into play.

I didnt have my own back when the studio was doing poorly and we were constantly fighting with the landlords. I was a shell of a person. Trying to make it through each day for my students and my family.

If you dont serve yourself first you end up serving others from an empty cup and no one wins that game in the long term.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Simon Kozlowski. My copyrighting coach and friend. He has helped me more than business coaches over the years. He is such a powerful and wise individual I have learned so much about myself and my business. Over the seemingly short period of time we worked together he has changed my perspective on eliminating the thing that I thought had to be complicated about my business which not only affected my business positively but my life. I love those “silent” heros in our lives.
