We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynette Chiabai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lynette, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?

First and foremost, Loving our children unconditionally is the most important thing we can do for them. Supporting their passions and allowing them the independence provides the confidence they need to pursue their dreams. Secondly, being a role model for them is super important. When they are witness to your hard work and good moral character, we hoped it   establishes a strong foundation for them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Working in the corporate space for almost 20 years, I felt the need for a change. Unknowingly what change I was seeking; I came across a franchise called Hammer & Nails Grooming Shop for Guys. I fell in love with the concept. A Grooming Lounge for Guys, a space for men where they can be themselves while receiving the best self-care experience. Guys can come in for all their barbering services then walk into our Hand & Foot room, sink themselves in our large leather chairs, sip on their favorite whisky while enjoying their personal flat screen tv, all while receiving their manicure and pedicure services. There is nothing like it in the Southbay! I opened Hammer and Nails Southbay in November 2019. After about 3 months in operation, the world shut down as we all knew it due to the Covid pandemic. That was challenging on all fronts, but we persevered and I am grateful that, it is hopefully behind us. There have been so many lessons learned throughout and I continue to strive for growth. It has been such a ride! I have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful small business owners in the community, such as my friend Lisa who owns the Now Massage South Bay.  my company participates in donating Hammer & Nails services and products to local schools and organizations for their fund- raising events. Additionally, we provide space for private events such as bachelor parties, photo shoots, podcast space and or simply host a group of guys just wanting to enjoy their self-care time together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well since I am in the Southbay, let’s start with going to the beach! on a nice sunny day, let’s hit the sand and soak up the sun in Manhattan Beach. Drinks and donuts at the Strand House are a must! Let’s take our bike down to Hermosa Beach and enjoy Pier Avenue. You can’t go wrong with breakfast at Martha’s and Monday jazz night at the Light House brings in the crowd. Dinner spots! wow! there are so many great spots to eat. Let’s get our sushi fix at Sugar Fish in MB and or Katsuya, can’t go wrong with either. How about some Italian food? if we can get into Jame Enoteca in El Segundo. Farmer’s Market in MB is a blast! let’s stroll and shop for fresh fruits and veggies and grab a bite.
Next, let’s get out of the Southbay and venture out. A basketball game at Crypto arena to see the Lakers or let’s go see the Rams/Chargers at Sofi stadium. We can’t go without shopping at the Westfield Century City mall. Now, all we’ve done is eat, drink and shop, how about we go up to Palos Verdes and do some light hiking with the dogs, and  end at the NOW Massage for our relaxing massages.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

As an immigrant from the Philippines, I saw my parents struggle to make ends meet. Hard work was what they instilled in me. Both my parents, Eduardo & Eliza Jacinto continuously reminded me to study hard and work hard. Those words are what have kept me going! I lost my Dad to cancer at a young age, but his words of wisdom and encouragement early on has made a huge impact in my life. I remember he used to say, “Lynette, you can do anything you set your mind to”; my Aunt Cynthia Llanes for believing in me when my high school counselor told me I was not college material Today, my husband, Rod Chiabai and our two daughters, Jenna & Skyler are my biggest fans and provide the loving support I need to keep going. On the business front, I would like to recognize both John Choi and Aaron Meyers, previous and current CEO of Hammer and Nails Grooming Shop for Guys for their ongoing support and mentorship. I am so proud and delighted to be part of such an amazing franchise.
