We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynne Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lynne, what are you inspired by?
I’m always inspired by natural beauty as well as craftsmanship. Over my career I’ve perfected the art of dressmaking. The fun part is staying receptive to the beauty that surrounds us everyday. It’s always there, you just have to train your eyes to stay open to it. That inspiration is how I design, while the craftsmanship is how I build!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I was a young girl I was always so excited for the holidays as my sisters and I would all get a new dress. I felt like a million bucks in that dress! That emotion is what pulled me into fashion. I’ve always loved the beauty in the art behind luxury wear. It’s mesmerizing. I’ve spent years behind the scenes in ateliers learning those skills. I wanted to create excellence such as master tailors like Alexander McQueen and Charles James.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in DTLA now for 7 years my fav is still Grand Central Market. I never get tired of all the culinary options and all the people. Add in the neon signage plus music and it’s a creative overload! Perch is also an amazing location for brunch- then off to The Broad museum to catch up on your culture. Grand Park has so many timely exhibits throughout the year, it’s nice to give it a stroll.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been fortunate enough to work for the best design houses on the West Coast. I’m so thankful I was introduced to many styles of creativity. It’s been like decades full of Master Classes. Working with designers like August Getty, Halston and Monique Lhuillier has expanded my relationship with creativity and luxury.
