We had the good fortune of connecting with LynZ Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LynZ, what do you want people to remember about you?
Honestly this question was an easy one for me just because of a song I just wrote and a message I got from someone near and dear to my heart before I released it that was just one of those crazy synchronicities. My new song that just came out is called Free and it’s a song about just that. I want people to know that it is important to find out what your truth is, know it and be able to speak it! Often times I think a lot of things can distract people from their inner truth, intuition and beliefs. Things like church, school, the family you grow up in, societal expectations, businesses, etc. Ultimately I want people to see me as someone that was true to herself, crazy, wild & most of all FREE! I want to be someone that encourages people to be themselves and that is cool! Do the personal work to really know who you are and what you want in this life and don’t let anyone or anything deter you! Before I released the song Free I got a message from the son of a mentor of mine I used to work with in the music industry. He said “this is out of the blue but you used to work with my mom and I was around you quite a lot through the awkward teenage years when everyone “wants to be cool.” You always showed to just me ME. That meant the world to me and I held onto that all through my life so I could LIVE how I wanted to, thanks for being great!” I got so emotional over this because this is what I live for and love. I messaged him I had a song coming out actually about this and it meant the world to me. I mean wow! What a gift! Ever since Ive released Free I’ve gotten so many beautiful messages about the song and how everyone is inspired by the message. That really is the greatest thing about sharing your heart and soul in music…if you even touch just one life, it’s WORTH IT!
Alright, what sets you apart from others? And how do you want to be seen?
What sets me apart from others is my big soulful voice and the fact that I rap as well. Whenever I tell people that they are like “you do?” Also if you close your eyes while I’m singing you would not imagine what’s singing in front of you! I’ve had people tell me this as well. I love that element of surprise. I got to where I am today with a lot of hard work, dedication and effort. There’s so many different aspects of an artists career…the artistic, creative side where you perform live, write songs, record in the studio. There’s the business side radio, promotion, sales, marketing, etc. It can be challenging to keep all of this together which is why it’s so important to have the right team around you. I am an independent artist and I’ve had a lot of amazing people along the way help me a lot that I’ve learned from but the challenges I’ve had to overcome is how to communicate what my vision is and stick to the plan. I know life happens and we have to go with the flow in ways but I feel like there were some opportunities presented to me that I didn’t take full advantage of because I didn’t understand how to communicate what I was looking for and who I was at the time. I’ve done a lot of work on connecting with my truth and really knowing who I am as an artist. What I want the world to know about me is I’m a free spirit that loves life, music, emotions, creating, rapping and working with people who understand me. In my new song titled Free it goes into detail about what I think all of us ultimately want and that is to be FREE, happy, & ME!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week long trip we would definitely go to the beach, you know Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu. We may ride some rides on the pier. In Malibu we would for sure go eat at Paradise Cove Beach Cafe…what a vibe! We would go on a hike to the Hollywood sign. On a Tuesday night you could find us at Bar Lis in Hollywood for an epic jazz night. On Wed night you could find us doing some salsa dancing at the Sofitel with the incredible Angelo Pagan Y Son Candela band. We would definitely eat at one of my most favorite restaurants in LA right now La Mesa where there’s a Tulum vibe, the food is out of this world and there’s fire breathers and dancers. It’s incredible! Some lunch spots may be Toi on Sunset for some incredible Thai food, and Mels Diner on Hollywood Blvd bc of course they would need to see that. I would drive down rodeo if the bestie wanted. We would definitely hit up Desert 5 Spot in Hollywood one night before she left because I’m from Austin, TX originally so I’m a sucker for a crazy country band! It’s incredible! I think by then the bestie would want to move here because there ain’t no city like LA!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been so blessed to have a lot of support in my life and many mentors that I’m so grateful for but for this Shoutout series I have to dedicate this to a few spiritual teachers that I feel have really changed my life the past few years and they are Teal Swan and Jillian Turecki. I have never felt so aligned with any other teachings as I have theirs. Both focus on doing the “work” within yourself and I think that is so so important. Jillian calls this “emotional fitness!” have also been a part of Jillian’s Conscious Women program and I highly recommend it. For me, it’s so important to work on this, and it has led to me having a better life. I have watched SO many videos of Teal’s on YouTube and gone through a few of her programs and let me tell you, it’s the best thing i’ve done for myself, for my music, and for life!
