We had the good fortune of connecting with M Sayibu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi M, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Ghana in West Africa. And I believe coming up from a place where wanting to end up in Hollywood was more a delusion than a dream so I suppose this type of upbringing instilled serious sense of purpose in me. I had to make my delusion a reality. And I did
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently finishing up the first Science fiction feature film ever to be made by and in Ghana. I’m quite proud to be a pacesetter in that way. I attribute getting here to the years of diligent work in Hollywood building up a good portfolio and definitely, my collaborator and mentor Bex (Currently starring in Netflix’s Away) brought everything together. The challenge as always was financial but that was somewhat alleviated thanks to Bex. Ultimately the take away I would want from this is that no matter where in the world you are born, your dreams can still come true if you work on it and don’t relent.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Bacari down in Playa Del Rey for a good dinner or Prince O Wales which is a bar also in Playa del Rey. What can I say, I’m a creature of habit
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother most definitely as well my aunty and uncles as I grew up but more recently it has been my wife and daughter who deserve all the credit for keeping me grounded and focused.
