Meet Madam Misift aka Sarah Paul | Singer, Songwriter and ambassador of Red Heads

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madam Misift aka Sarah Paul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madam Misift, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in the lovely city of Chester over in Cheshire England, I had a pretty standard upbringing, holidays on the beach, studied hard and played even harder, sadly it was the colour of my hair that had a huge impact on me today which sounds simply ridiculous, but being a redhead at school it tough going!
Madam Misfit, is not only a steampunk / Chap hop / rapper (and whatever other label I get tagged with) is now an ambassador for redheads, she’s a character that evokes all the strength and personality I lacked all those years ago, over the top and maybe a little brash to coverup the insecurities of her weaknesses.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Amongst a crowd, I certainly stand out, but it has taken years of hiding from myself to start being me! Yes I am strongest as my alter ego Madam Misfit armed with a microphone but she stands strong and proud singing comical yet passionate lyrics relating to issues very close to my heart. I perform a sort of comedy rap, mainly to an up tempo positive swing/hiphop beat – this niche has been aptly named “Chap-Hop”.
I am very proud to be the first female in the genre, I have been welcome by the other artists with open arms and am slowly trying to make myself known amongst the world with my music.
Earlier in 2021 I released “Big Bad Wolf” a remix of the traditional childrens story sampling the original Henry Hall track but was able to alter the lyrics aimed towards depression and standing up to the big black dog that has loomed over so many over the past year. I was really proud of this track mainly because the amount of feedback I received from folk saying it had really cheered them up meant I was doing something right.
Lessons I’ve learned over the way, listen to my inner self, I’d rather take my time writing a song and get it perfect than rush and miss the mark.
I am different, I get that, but we all are, I promote diversity and positivity in a fun and creative way. It is my aim to paint smiles on the faces of my supporters and create a warm glow of positivity at all my shows.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooh, well so I was born in Chester however my previous line of work meant I moved across the UK to Lincolnshire where I now live in the beautiful little village of Woodhall Spa. It is steeped in history, so if history is your thing then this is the place. Home to 617 squadron the Dambusters I could easily take you to the beautiful Petwood Hotel, the officers mess to the squadron, for a quintessentially English Afternoon Tea followed by a visit to the memorials and then a spot of vintage aircraft spotting in the skies above.
OR/ Of history doesn’t float your boat, then a cracking breakfast in the village cafe followed by a cycle along the old railway line which runs alongside the river which eventually takes us to the city of Lincoln filled with the hustle and bustle of shops and beautiful boutiques. Walking around Lincoln we would tackle the great “Steep Hill” and stand in the shadows of the Cathedral and Castle and treat ourselves to an icecream from the fabulous parlor that is very welcoming after the hike up the hill.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Performing as Madam Misfit is very much down to fellow brother in Chap Hop and Friend Professor Elemental aka Paul Alborough.
I shouted up to him on stage that I sing too, and well, here I am! He has shared his stage and supporters with me and I am ETERNALLY grateful!
