We had the good fortune of connecting with Made of Hagop and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Made of Hagop, how do you think about risk?
The element of Risk is a huge factor in my life. It is the ultimate trust in the unknown, a choice that has proven its benefit to me time and time again. Every journey is personal, but there are so many unforeseen opportunities that come with risk taking. For me, it has been about internal growth and learning about the strength in the core of who I am by building confidence and establishing a deep trust in the Universe which has in turn, shown me a world of new possibilities. I have to be willing to risk everything in order for me to reach my full potential. The road less traveled is not always smooth, but it is definitely rewarding.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a self-taught mixed media collage artist and wheat paste muralist with a BA in Mathematics. I create large scale installations that feature my signature Totems: human beings meeting their animal spirit. The installations are site-specific and really depend upon the project. Most of my commissions come from individuals or companies seeking a unique totem for their home, business or brand. The aesthetic of my work is a minimal black and white, with a splash of red indicated by my signature, but in 2020 I created a new collection of mixed media collage works on paper called “Chroma” where I explored color, new techniques and embroidery on different handmade papers from around the world. What sets me apart is that there is a strong and focused intention with my process that allows me to channel the work from different dimensions – making the result unique to the artwork or project and its energy. Even though the final product is a work of art, it is also a potent medicine offering. The essence of my work is intended to inspire people to recognize their own truth and power and to live a life that fulfills their highest potential.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Life in 2020 has changed and it seems that going to enclosed places with crowds has been cancelled. The one thing that I will be doing with friends would be to enjoy time in nature and go on long hikes. A morning mediation session is always a great way to start the day….. Some of my favorite hiking trails are in Topanga such as Eagle Rock Trail and Los Liones Trail or if I am on the east side the Brand Library Hiking Trail.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my partner in shine, my twin flame and life partner, Sky Avakian. (@skyavakian) She has been the biggest support system and a constant inspiration as the muse behind a lot of my work. Her love has shattered the thick walls around me and has helped me shine my light.
