Meet Madhurya-lila Roe | Owner, Lila’s Vegan Sweets

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madhurya-lila Roe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lila’s Sweets is a 100% vegan bakery based in Long Beach that specializes in cookies, pop tarts and savory pastry with a focus on allergen-friendly offerings. This business was born out of my love of baking and sharing my sweets with those around me. And I’ve been vegan since I was a teenager–so showing people that vegan or plant based doesn’t have to equate to tasteless or “not as good” as baked goods made with butter, milk or eggs is, of course, the icing on the vegan cake of this business. I’d say the thing that sets me apart from other small businesses similar to mine is the offering of gluten-free versions of popular treats you have nostalgia for–like pop tarts!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’m all about being in the kitchen and I’m all about being in the desert. So I’d probably spend a day meal prepping a bunch of yummy food we could pack and take with us on a trip to either Joshua Tree. If that were a little too far of a trip on that particular weekend, I’d still pack us a picnic or two and head straight to Crystal Cove.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband who endlessly supports me and our little family as I build this business from the ground up.
