Meet Madison Cho | Real Estate Agent

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Cho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Making the leap from being a stay-at-home mom to becoming a café manager and then stepping into the world of real estate in my mid-40s was definitely a big decision—but one I’m so proud of! It wasn’t easy, and there were moments of doubt, but the excitement of starting fresh, learning new things, and following my passions kept me going. It’s a journey that’s been full of growth, challenges, and incredible rewards. I’m embracing the change with open arms, and each day brings new opportunities to learn and make an impact.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Three years ago, I knew very little about the café business when I joined my brother’s café. My decision to step in was driven by a simple motivation: after the challenges of Covid and my son’s college decision, I asked myself how I wanted to spend the rest of my life. I wanted to break free from my routine and become more active. I started learning about small businesses and focused on building a solid foundation for success. Food safety, freshness, cleanliness, and professionalism became my guiding principles. I always remind my team to “make a plate like you want to eat” and “treat customers how you want to be treated.”
I also made it a priority to protect my staff—whatever challenges arise with customers, they know they have a “magic word” to use, which is “Madison.” We handle things behind the scenes, so they can focus on what they do best. Over time, we’ve developed a loyal customer base who appreciates not only our food and coffee but also the consistency we strive for every day. Now, as I transition into real estate, I don’t worry about the café because I know that strong foundation is in place.
In just four months of my real estate career, I’ve been fortunate enough to complete two leases and two escrows, with one still in progress and three leases currently underway. I’ve been working hard, building a strong portfolio, and have never been busier. How did I get started on the right foot? Mentorship and trust. I’ve followed many real estate professionals on social media, and after passing my real estate exam, I reached out to one of my influences, Ssara Hwang, for advice. She took me under her wing, joining me for showings, meetings with lenders, and teaching me how to handle paperwork.
Ssara also encouraged me to attend the new agent education class with our vice president, Eric Min, whose approach balances Ssara’s with practicality and preparation. Though I’m still a newcomer and sometimes lack confidence, I never hesitate to reach out to them or knock on our president Kenneth’s door. Their guidance ensures I’m on the right path and often provides better ways to approach challenges. With such strong support, I’m confident I can continue to grow and strengthen my portfolio in real estate.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When you come to LA, you’ve got to start with the essentials! Begin your day at Hermosa Beach and make your way to the iconic Watts Towers. After that, swing by Grand Central Market downtown for a tasty snack—perfect fuel before hopping on Angel’s Flight. From there, take a stroll to the stunning Disney Hall and soak in the architecture.
For dinner, head over to DaeDo in Koreatown for some mouthwatering Korean BBQ—trust me, it’s a must! After that, take a drive up to Griffith Park for an unforgettable view of the LA skyline at night.
But that’s just the start! I’ll also take you to Catalina Island for three days. A short one-hour ferry ride will transport you to a vibe that’s not quite LA, but still totally LA. You’ve got to try the Lobster Roll from Lobster Trap—it’s unbelievably better than Boston’s! Whether you’re parasailing, taking a submarine tour, fishing, or just relaxing on the beach, the island’s charm is hard to beat.
When you get back to Long Beach, don’t miss out on some delicious Cambodian food—it’s a hidden gem! And if you’re into thrills, Universal Studios City Walk and the tours are a must-see. But first, stop by the Belgium Waffle Haus in Studio City for a coffee and breakfast. Their Liege waffles are made from scratch with imported pearl sugar—seriously, you have to try one. Maybe even use the “magic word” there to meet “Madison” 😉
If you have time, a visit to the UCLA and USC campuses is a must. If there’s a football game, definitely check it out! And of course, the rest of your trip is up to you—LA’s full of endless adventures, so get out there and enjoy everything this amazing city has to offer! It’s LA, after all.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people in my life are the ones who’ve truly shaped me into who I am today, and I’m beyond grateful for each one of them. My husband is my rock—he believes in me more than I do, and his unwavering support makes me feel like I always have him right by my side. Plus, he’s the absolute best hugger! My children, Allison and Brandon, are already better people than I could ever hope to be. I’ve grown alongside them, learning what it really means to be a mother. They’re my biggest cheerleaders, constantly reminding me that I’m capable and strong.
I’m also incredibly thankful for my brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Shina, who trusted me with the keys to the café. Their belief in me is such an inspiration. And of course, my mom, who still believes I can save the world—her strength and willpower are unmatched. I’m so blessed to have such amazing people around me!
