We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Condra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madison, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was able to conceptualize a future for myself, I’ve known that I want to be in the entertainment industry. I started in musical theatre at about six and still, occasionally, pursue that to this day. Around nine or ten years old, I continued in musical theatre, though I started expressing an interest in film. While my image of life and my goals have evolved, I’m still working to experience the future I began to seek out when I was six and it’s seventeen years later.

As I grow older, I’ve become able to articulate that I pursue artistic and creative endeavors, not under the concept of having a career and steady work in something I love, but, because it is a fundamental part of my worldview. The art that I have been able to see or be a part of has shaped the way that I take in experiences and everything that I create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The artist’s salon is a current project that I am really excited about. I am working with my friend and artistic collaborator, Madalyn Higdon, to design “Créer”. “Créer” is a recurring event for up-and-coming artists to show their work in a community that showcases a wide array of mediums. The goal of this project is to create more opportunities for people to share and view the work of peers. We had the first salon this past March and it could not have gone better. To be in a room full of people sharing ideas, making friends, and visualizing their creativity brings out so much joy and an energy that is inspiring.

As far as how I got to where I am today, I think of persistence and imagination. It’s not very easy to keep trying when people consistently tell you that you aren’t good enough. However, I see where I want to be and the things I want to experience so clearly, that I will keep trying and learning until I get there.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I had the best time at Spoke Bicycle Cafe, right along the LA River path. It’s an outdoor bicycle repair shop/rental/restaurant/cafe that sometimes has live performances? I went to a comedy show there and would definitely recommend the experience. I’d also say Cassell’s for the housemade ginger beer, The Alamo Cinema for $9 ticket Tuesdays and incredible vibes, and Los Angeles State Historic Park if you’re looking for a nice walk, picnic, place to paint, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be remiss if I did not credit my “why” to my parents who helped give me access to theatre and film when I was younger and my friends in the creative field who pose questions and move forward, inspiring me to do the same.
