Meet Maelina Gibson | Actor & Comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maelina Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maelina, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
You don’t get to know if you got the part right away. After you do the audition or send in your tape that’s it until you get a call! What I start doing was tearing up my sides and throwing them away. Out of sight out if mind. I used to go over my sides thinking what I could’ve done different. Once I do it to the best of my ability that’s it!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently recording an audio series called “Me, Myself then Guys”, written and directed by Jason Keith Taylor. It’s something that would indulge in, even if I wasn’t in it! It’s about an ambitious talent agent that works to open doors for herself, and her agency to take her mind off her failed love life after being left at the alter! There’s so many twists and turns and actual unexpected revelations! I’m extremely excited to share that I recently got a chance to be a part of an Oscar qualifying short called “Hallelujah”. It was a beautifully written and directed by Victor Gabriel. It opens on two brothers arguing about how they’re going to take care of their eccentric nephew and his sister. When Spike Lee saw it, he signed on to be an Executive Producer! Even more recently I got to star in a brilliantly written short by up-and-coming director Rebecca Hoffman-Loyd called “Here/After” about a celestial case worker that has become disillusioned with her work and yearns for a promotion. This one touched me deeply because so many of us have lost someone that we care about in this life. It’s a little funny to think what could be going on …after!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So when my best friend came to visit I took him to one of the taco spots downtown LA. We went to 2 of my comedy shows, one of which was at The Comedy Chateau. We went to Manhattan Beach. We also went to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Wax Museum, Hollywood Guinness World Records. We also went to the movies.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m here because my family and friends supported me in a way that is still unmatched!
