We had the good fortune of connecting with MAGÏN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MAGÏN, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in the 209. My parents are from the islands of Portugal, and my Godparents are from México. My background and upbringing has heavily impacted the way I carry myself and the music I share with the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a trilingual artist athlete, and the genre of music I make is Latin Infused Alternative Hip Hop. My background in live performance and radio really set a solid foundation with where I am today professionally.
It’s been an uphill battle to get to where I am, but I’ve been able to overcome challenges by balancing my passions in music, sports, and education. I’ve always been surrounded by diverse friends/ colleagues, and I’m currently working on releasing my next body of work, “DÏVERSE volume 3”.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Blessed to be living in 1 of the best states in the world, so with a weeks time, it’d be a road trip from nor – cal to so – cal. We’d start in the 209, have some home cooked meals, catch some views in the bay, ride along the coast, and end up in La. Food wise, need me some mexicano, portuguese, and filipino fasho.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have helped push me to be who I am, my family (I’m the youngest of 7 so all 6 of my siblings/ nieces & nephews), DÏVERSE mundo, Plural Music, Empire Latino, KWIN, and my producers/ colleagues who have helped shape my sound.
