We had the good fortune of connecting with Makena Sommer Partington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makena Sommer, how do you think about risk?
Risk is an opportunity, not a deterrent. There are various risks in life, some damaging, and some only scary because we impose fear into exiting our comfort zones. If we become risk-averse emotionally, we often lose attunement to our intuitive purpose, hindering our success. Throughout my life, taking risks has been the transition between my many lives. Leaping from one trajectory to another takes risks, and I have had to choose to welcome these risks with open arms. To begin again transcends the fear associated with risk as the reward fulfills our soul. To be completely honest, not having children or a spouse allows me to treat risk as an illusion and any repercussions I can pivot from myself. I am aware this mindset would be much more difficult if I had children or a spouse to consider. We will see how my ideas of risk change as my life progresses!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My intention being my life decisions is to lead with passion and gratitude, not desperation and entitlement. I am most proud of our iOS app launching soon, as I never anticipated my future to include such an endeavor. Given that I have a nature for problem-solving, opportunities to do so flow into my life quite often. Regarding our app concept, an inefficiency existed, which many colleagues also complained of, and the chance to create a solution presented itself. Instead of waiting for someone to fulfill this market need, I met the vast market need myself. It took time, but after a few months I found a team and a co-founder, entering this journey together. my family instilled the importance of completing what needs to be done, with perfectionism and excellence throughout each detail.

A vital lesson I have implemented is the understanding that no desire or goal is too far; it’s only a matter of embodiment, strategy, and eroding any barriers to entry. This includes mastering myself, habits and mind included, as our main restrictions are subconscious blockages and self-limiting beliefs. Nothing is straightforward or linear in this life, but when I am in a state of flow, life feel effortless, and stress often dissipates. Perception shifting allows hard things to feel easy.

In any opportunity I pursue, creatively or quantitatively, my personality and focus on love transcends sheer grit. People want to work with me because I treat each moment as a gift and approach challenges with a growth mindset. Everyone can be a vessel for learning in this life, so people feel valued in my presence because I value them immensely. I see people and display love to them and their thoughts, because that has always been important to me. In childhood I decided that my life would feel fulfilled if I displayed egoless love to all those I encounter. Like many say, to receive and give love is to be love.

Furthermore, it has been essential to know myself profoundly and check myself if I stray from my values. I try engage with those who align and embody the discipline to acheive a likeminded vision. This allows me to trust them. I apply this mindset in modeling, development, or delegating tasks for charitable causes. In modern environments, data, information, and quick communication are so abundant that we mustn’t forget the importance of quality, kindness, patience, and passion.

I want the world to know that being a young woman entails such diverse passions, and none need to be surpressed. Being a cyclical being by nature inspires us to pursue various careers which some deem impossible. You don’t have to choose one category. You just have to pave your path and trust your intuition.
