We had the good fortune of connecting with Malcolm Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Malcolm, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Starting Roam The Halls was an easy decision. We had a vision of the type of clothes that we wanted to wear ourselves and decided to make them real. We are lucky enough to be around a lot of amazing creative people in Los Angeles and we started finding that people shared our vision. As a creative I think the best way to ensure what you’re making speaks to people is to be excited about it yourself. If you think something should exist go out and make it!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Roam The Halls is all about transcending societal norms in favor of deep creativity and a universal human experience. We use the skeletons because the are genderless, race-less, ageless, and deeply human. The name Raom The Halls comes from our experiences in high school floating from group to group. One day I personally would be kicking it with skater kids and the next day I would be playing basketball with jocks. That experience roaming from group to group led me to understand that we are all fundamentally unique, but we have a lot in common as human beings. Everyone is invited to roam, but at the same time our product is tailored for exceptional humans. It’s about elevating the human experience in a way everyone can participate. That, and we use a lot of dark colors and unique silhouettes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Obviously covid changes the calculation a bit here but LA is still an awesome town. We just spent the day in the Jewelry District comparing samples for some new pieces. It would be cool to show a friend the grittiness and hustle atmosphere of downtown. Also I could spend and insane amount of time waling up and down melrose. There is so much raw creativity in the fashion space here. As far as food goes, there are literally too many dope spots to name but I’ve been really into this place called Ijuu The Strange Beast lately. Everything they serve looks like anime food, but in real life. I think thats tight. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really want to thank all of our early fans. Selling out our first Roam The Halls drop so fast was a huge moment for us and gave us the courage to be way more futuristic with our following drops. It means the world to us. If you were one of the early few reading this you know who you are and we love you.
