We had the good fortune of connecting with Malia Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Honestly I started sewing as a hobby. As a young mom, I started making things that I needed/wanted for my son. Any easy tutorial I could find on YouTube, I tried. As I grew creatively so did my family and I really narrowed in on what was serving my family and I in our everyday lives.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of SewCuteXO. I create multifunctional bags for mom life, traveling and the outdoors! Along with accessories that go with those aspects of life. Everything I create, I test out and use myself before launching. I won’t release products that I personally don’t love and use daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is so hard because the Big Island has so much beauty! I live on the Kona side and so we would definitely hit up different beaches to relax and hang out together, of course kid friendly. I would take her to all my favorite local shops like Pilikana and Zaia Boutique. We would eat at Hawaii Fresh Specialties and Ola Brew. And if we were feeling real adventurous, camping in the mountains is always a fave!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1000% my family! My kids are my inspiration. Anything that makes our everyday life easier, I try to bring to life by sewing a product. They also let me know their opinions on the designs I draw, colors I use or adding details. It really makes it fun for us when the fabrics come in and we get to see the designs we created together come to life! Hands down, I wouldn’t be where I am today without my incredible husband. He is my rock and best friend. He listens to all my big dreams and plans that I word vomit to him daily. He has amazing patience with me when I get overwhelmed with business life & mom life. He comforts & encourages me when I have high anxiety about new launches or finances. My husband supports my passion in every way possible and I couldn’t do any of this without him!
