Meet Mami Mia | Artist & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mami Mia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mami Mia, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I do have days I want to give up. I have these a lot less often than I did years ago when I was first starting out in music.
Giving up means, that’s it. There’s no shows, no new songs, no new ideas, no creating, no effort, no nothing. I know exactly what my life would be like if I chose to give up.
But I do NOT know what my life would be like if I kept going. If I gave it my all, followed my own path, and paved a new way for others, who knows what could be. Even today, I never imagined I could do all I’m doing now.
“Not giving up” allows our lives to be limitless.
The only time we should give up is if we 100% know a path is not for us. For example, if I played soccer, I’d probably give up, because that’s not my ideal life. If what we’re doing doesn’t spark a light and is doing more harm than good to our lives, it’s fine to hang up that coat for a while, or indefinitely.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I see the world through rose-gold tinted lenses. I love to feel life and infuse that feeling into sonic form through melodies. I like my songs to breathe like I do- calm, but energizing in their own unconventional, bubbly-chill type of way.
It’s dope that just by being myself, I’ve gotten to meet and work with some of my heroes and local legends. I’ve played on stages I’ve always wanted to, and even won my first music award at the 2023 HRDRV Awards.
Though, it has not been an easy road and it will never be an “easy road.” I put a lot of time and investments into this, but there’s no other option but to keep going. Literally- what else is there to do, but to keep going?
It’s this mindset that keeps me on track. Knowing that everyday is an opportunity to live the life you want (or work towards it).
It can make you physically ill to NOT live your truth and be your best self. After I got lupus at 19, I realized life is too short to not be doing you to the fullest.
Your ideal life/self is within reach. It’s like a perfectly ripe fruit at the top of a tree. It’s there, but you might need to find a tool, or create a tool- then learn how to use it, try, fail, try again, and eventually, you’ll get your dream fruit- whatever that is lol.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My SF itinerary? Hmm..
Day 1. Catch a Giants game and get the literal best crab sandwiches in the world. Grab drinky drinks, and stay at the corner room at the W, which is walking distance.
Day 2. Get dumplings at Palette Tea House, shop around, get some ice cream and cookies at Ghiradelli. Walk to Fisherman’s wharf for some bomb cioppino, souvenir shopping, and watch the sea lions. Play some old-school games at the Penny Arcade.
Day 3. Go to my fave foodtruck spot, Monarch Gardens, and get theee best chicken strips/chicken sandwiches, & fries at WH42. Bar-hop on Polk St- my faves are McTeague’s and the bar to the left of that (I’m not sure the name haha).
Day 4. Brunch at Sweetmaple. I’ve never been to Salesforce park but I’ve always wanted to go, so… go to Salesforce park. Check out the little shops and foodie places at the Ferry Building. Maybe listen to the local musicians who play outside.
Day 5. Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and go to the lookout spot at Battery Spencer. Drive back to the city to get some A5 Japanese Wagyu and an apple martini at Mastro’s. Grab drinks at my fave bar, the View Lounge.
Day 6. Wander around Japantown, shop, get kbbq. Get ready then go to Butter SF for an innnnteresting night out.
Day 7. Spend a day at the beach- drive out of SF to Pacifica, enjoy the sunshine & fresh air
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout HRDRV, aka “the new music industry.” I’ve never felt more at home amongst a community, and I love being apart of something so ground-breaking and huge.
I’ve been with them the past two years, and I’ve definitely made the greatest strides under their guidance, mentorship, and support.
They give me all the tools I need, and encourage me to live my fiercest Musician life- unapologetically. Also, it’s amazing getting to work with some of my favorite legends.
Love yall <3
