We had the good fortune of connecting with Manatsu Aminaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Manatsu, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk-taking makes me excited. I won’t be able to find the next step without it. Sometimes it’s scary and stressful. But I’m always fighting risks and myself because it’s taking me into a new world. I am sure that I will encounter a new side of myself that exceeds my imagination and have wonderful encounters.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Collaborating with artists is the most exciting. For example, a collaboration with visual art and dance, a live improvisation dance and music improvisation etc. It’s brought me discoveries every time, and I feel a lot of great energy and I like the moment when something new magic happens. What’s even more interesting is that art is intricately intertwined with a person’s experiences and time in their life, so I’m excited every time a new harmony is happening. And the range of my expression expands.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
New York has so many types of art, and I recommend visiting art museums. Of course, it’s fun to see modern art from the past to the present at places like the Metropolitan Museum and Moma, and you can see a variety of artworks just by walking in the city. You’ll never get bored with the live art experiences and unique New York art.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would especially like to thank Igal Perry, who gave me a scholarship to attend school in New York. This was a huge turning point. My life has changed since then because the environment around me has suddenly changed and I will never forget the time when I was a Peridance Center certificate program student. It was so intense, just keep dancing, learning, challenging, trying out ……. I realized how important to focus on myself and my physical, and mental condition from that experience. I graduated from school in 2023 and started working as a freelance dancer, and I am also grateful to the people who work around me. I’m so happy to have a place where I can always learn and be inspired.
