Hi Mandy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The journey towards starting my own business was an unexpected twist in my life’s path. Initially, the idea of becoming an entrepreneur never crossed my mind; it simply wasn’t a part of my plans. Little did I know, the universe had its own plan for me.

As I pursued my studies in Interior Design, I felt the need for an additional creative outlet. That’s when the seed of entrepreneurship was unknowingly planted. During my Sophomore year in college, I found myself creating logos, invitations, and business cards for various projects. At first, I didn’t consider accepting payment for my work – it was more about the joy of creation.

However, as fate would have it, my creations started gaining attention. People insisted on compensating me for my work, which took me by surprise. The spark ignited when my side gig transitioned from giftcards to a full-blown business venture. I found myself designing for friends and family, and the demand only grew.

While I continued to work full-time at a residential interior design firm, the universe had another lesson in store for me. Balancing a demanding job with my blossoming side business led to a realization. I was missing out on precious moments with loved ones, struggling to manage my time, and feeling a growing dissatisfaction in my life.

It was during this internal struggle that I reached a pivotal crossroads. I realized I had a choice to make – to stay in a comfort zone or to embrace change and challenge. The decision to take that leap of faith and turn my side gig into a full-time venture was tough, but necessary.

Now, I find myself surrounded by a community of fellow entrepreneurs and small business owners. It’s incredible to see how the trajectory of my life has shifted. I’ve come to understand that sometimes, the best paths are the ones we never even considered. Today, I’m living my passion, running my own business, and cherishing every moment with friends and family.

My journey serves as a reminder that life’s surprises can lead to the most rewarding adventures.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What makes me stand out is my belief that opportunities are abundant and there’s enough work for everyone. If a project isn’t the right fit for me, I’m quick to recommend someone who can meet the client’s needs. I understand that each business and owner requires a tailored level of attention and support, so I take the time needed to connect with my clients.

My journey is a source of immense pride. Everything I’ve achieved stems from my experiences. Despite not holding a degree directly related to my field, I’ve embarked on a self-taught path. I’ve delved into online courses, YouTube tutorials, countless trial-and-error projects, and tasks I initially hesitated to take on. These experiences have been my greatest teachers, pushing me to learn about contracts, business management, taxes, design, and more.

My journey hasn’t been easy. There have been moments of doubt, stress, and even tears. However, these challenges have propelled me forward. I’ve learned that growth isn’t about achieving specific goals; it’s about consistently improving and evolving. I’ve transformed my mindset from being goal-oriented to being growth-oriented, understanding that long-term consistency is the key to lasting success.

Our energy continues with breakfast at the delightful Piedmont Bistro or Engine House Cafe, followed by a cup of the city’s finest coffee from one of our charming local coffee shops.

As the afternoon rolls in, get ready for a mouthwatering sushi feast at Blue Sushi Sake Grill, where creative flavors and a vibrant atmosphere collide. Art enthusiasts will be thrilled by the chance to explore the Sheldon Art Museum or dive into the lively atmosphere of artist studios and artistic community displays. For those seeking adventure, we’ll embark on an exhilarating kayaking journey across the stunning surrounding lakes. As we head downtown, prepare to immerse ourselves in history and modern charm as we pop into unique boutiques and shops.

Evenings in Lincoln are an absolute delight. We’ll celebrate the day with a classic Runza – after all, every moment is a reason to relish this local favorite. Indulging our sweet tooth, we’ll hunt down the best spot in town for a delightful creme brulee that’s sure to be unforgettable. To experience the electric energy of our sports scene, we’ll don Husker gear and join the sea of Red at Memorial Stadium or the Bob Devaney Sports Center for an exhilarating game-day adventure. As twilight approaches, we’ll savor craft cocktails at the chic Kate Martin or enjoy the elegant charm of sipping Prosecco at The Barred Owl. For a perfect dinner finale, we would welcome the change to dine on the patio at Toast, enjoying delicious cuisine and the charming evening ambiance.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To every person who took a chance on me, who recommended me to others, or who simply shared a word of encouragement – your faith in me has been the fuel for my journey. The trust you placed in my abilities pushed me to strive for excellence in everything I do.

My clients hold a special place in my heart. They’re more than just clients – they’re the foundation of my business, the reason for my growth, and an integral part of my network. Each interaction, each project, and each shared story has added a layer of richness to my journey. Their support, feedback, and trust have been instrumental in shaping the direction of my business.

My appreciation extends to my circle of friends and family, who were some of my very first clients and cheerleaders. Their unwavering belief in me from the start speaks volumes about the quality of people I’m lucky to have in my corner. Their support was more than transactional; it was a testament to their belief in my potential.
