We had the good fortune of connecting with Marbella Arana-Fletes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marbella, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is a simple, classic one that states, “good things take time”. I’ve carried this quote in my mind throughout my life as a reminder that nothing good comes easy. Good things that will make a significant, transformative impact in your life require lots of work, dedication, failures, and commitment and all of these things take time. When starting my business, I had to remind myself that there is no rush to automatically be the best. Everyone has their own path and story and with time, I found my own journey and achieved success. This quote is a crucial reminder to take my time with things, put in my best efforts, learn from my mistakes and eventually, everything else falls into place.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my willingness to take risk. Whether that be in a business aspect or in a creative aspect, I’m always up for a risky challenge. Creatively, when a client asks for an intricate hand drawn design, it’s almost never that I decline the design. I will practice it before my client arrives and put myself to the test and challenge my creative abilities. This increases client satisfaction and self satisfaction. Getting to where I am today was everything but easy. It’s taken a lot of trials and tribulations that require immense motivation to get through. When encountering a failure, I had to accept that not everything works out for a higher purpose and that mindset is what’s gotten me to where I am today. I have learned to not compare your journey to others because that is the formula to failure. Appreciating the small wins and learning from other people rather than comparing yourself will write out your success story. I would want the world to know that it always gets better. My story has become what it is all because I held onto hope. My life before having started my business was very difficult and has a lot of depth, but reminding yourself that the grass is always greener on the other side and that God will get you through the hard times is what will bring you to your own success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take her to get breakfast everyday at places such as Toast or Urth cafe. I would then take her to some cool museums or amusement parks like Universal Studios or Disneyland. Im a huge lover of sightseeing, so I would definitely take her to some views like Elysian Park or the City Lights on Bunker Hill. Then after having appreciated the views, I would end the nights off with some nightlife in Koreatown/Downtown LA area at places such as the GoldRoom or Las Perlas for some drinks and amazing music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate a very warmhearted shoutout to my parents. When I had mentioned to my dad that I wanted to start doing nails, he did not hesitate to purchase my very first nail kit for me to practice with. Him and my mom then were the ones who constantly encouraged me and motivated me through words of affirmation to keep going because of the potential they saw in me. Once my dad saw that I was committed, again without hesitation and out of pure love and support, him and my mom decided to reconstruct my garage into my nail studio. These are only a few of the endless ways of support that they give me. Mis papas son mi fortaleza y mi razor para salir adelante y a ellos les dedico esto y toda mi vida.
