We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcela Velasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcela, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
At the age of nine my family and I left Honduras and migrated to the United States. I was born is a small city called Comayagua.
Being from a country where opportunities were limited has pushed me forward and makes me hungry for success. I saw how hard my parents worked to be able to give my sisters and I a better future here, and that is something that will forever be engraved in me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I became a mom in my twenties, back then I had a regular 8-5 job, clocking in and out. I prayed to God to please help me find a job where I could have time for my daughter, where my schedule could be flexible and where I could grow professionally. Soon enough a sales position opened up in my current job, I applied and was given the chance, and that’s how my career in sales started. As you can imagine I love being in sales, I love the people, I love the flexibility it gives me and how I can control how much money I can make. This propelled me to begin my entrepreneurship journey and launched my own jewelry brand, Arrows.
Arrows is inspired by my daughters; scripture says that children are like arrows that we as parents hold in our quiver. My girls are my arrows, and I am preparing them to go into the world and find their purpose, to hit their targets, to achieve their Dreams. I want my jewelry pieces to be worn by women that are like Arrows, that know which direction they are meant to go, women that are strong just like an arrow when pushed back that’s when they soar!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in South Florida, where there is a tropical storm one minute and the next minute the bright shiny sun comes out! I would definitely take them to see the ocean, and all its hues of blues. I would ask them to feel the sand thru their fingers, to close their eyes and hear the waves hitting the shore, and to enjoy the warmth of the sun. I think we take nature for granted, we should pause a bit and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. Another thing I enjoy is food! South Florida’s gastronomy is like no other, so I would definitely take them to eat. Some of the best places are those that seating is limited, but people don’t mind waiting because the food is just too good to miss. Here we can enjoy food from all different cultures, we have a wide selection of fusion places. This is something I enjoy about living here, I get the chance to meet people from different places, I love learning about who they are, I love speaking to people and learning about their background, I believe that we all have something good to share with others.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my daughters, My Arrows, Alejandra and Alissa. Everything that I do is for them, I want to be able to leave a legacy for them to be proud of, for them to be inspired, for them to know that no matter what if they set their minds and faith in God all things are possible.
