Meet Marco Pelusi | Haircolor Authority and Educator, Fashion Forward Celebrity Haircolorist/Stylist, Haircare Manufacturer and Salon Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marco Pelusi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marco, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I always felt like results are an indication of whether or not to keep going. Of course in the beginning you don’t see results, often for a long while. It can take years to build business. But after the biz is established, on the days of doubt, if a sale comes through, or a client calls, I take those little things as a sign to continue moving forward!

What should our readers know about your business?
When having respect for them, I knew early on I never wanted to order another company’s haircare products when I first opened my salon here on Robertson in West Hollywood. I have developed my own haircare products. I also have developed my very own Signature Highlight Strategy, which I now teach at all of the major hair shows around the world. In answer to your question, no, it has never been easy… mostly due to the logistics of what’s actually involved with both having my own salon space, people working with me, and of course, what’s involved in having an ongoing inventory of fresh, current haircare products. I have learned to never give up. I did not give up during some very challenging times, like the pandemic, as one example. I have looked for and found every possible pivot to keep my business going. I also have found that having more than one income stream is vital to my business – or perhaps any business. I also believe in relationships with good people who will support and grow my business. I would like the world to know how passionate I am about creating high quality haircare products!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start with my salon / my street here on Robertson! Come for a blowdry. Then we would walk to Butcher’s Daughter on Melrose for a wonderful meal. Maybe visit Craig’s on Melrose for a classy dinner and to see the celebrities! They could stay overnight at La Peer Hotel on La Peer (just one block away from my salon). Then perhaps the biggest thrill would be for us to head out to the coast…. can start in Santa Monica and visit the pier and go for a swim…. Then get on Pacific Coast Highway #1 and drive up through Malibu! It’s unforgettable…. especially to do this trip during the winter months, when it is typically still gorgeous here in LA! We could have a lovely lunch overlooking the water at Geoffrey’s Malibu!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll dedicate my shoutout to my Dad. He supported me in every possible way since before I even opened my business. He’s steady, strong, smart, just the best, even still today. I am blessed in every way to have had him for my Dad.
