We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadie C and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sadie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose an artistic career because there was no other choice for me.
I am reaffirming what many have said, if there is another option besides being an artist that you could choose, do that instead. (quoting my acting teachers)
In other words, it has to be about passion and a drive from your soul to pick this path. Not fame, not money. You must do this or you feel like a dead man. If it’s anything less, you won’t survive because an artist’s life is very tough and full of reasons to give up. If you can also be an accounting manager, then be that accounting manager. At least you’ll get paychecks.
I was in a corporate job and felt so dead, which was why I came back to acting and now simultaneously standup comedy. You can do both and not be doubly broke, just singly so. Haha I hope that joke lands.
Also it’s about what comes easily for you. For me, standup comedy wasn’t even my dream career. It’s just too many people tell me I was too funny not to do it while I was acting (true story) and I started doing it casually and now, my brain writes jokes in the middle of the night on its own. I just try to remember them when I wake up. (true story) talk about being a natural!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a working actor and standup comedian.
I can speak Mandarin and Japanese and played such foreign student roles for a while. I should complain about the lack of Asian good-representation on American media. It has gotten slightly better in the last few years, but still Asian men are gay and wacko and Asian women are targets of the male gaze and desire instead of being strong and indivudualistic.
Anyway, this is not my college thesis I am writing here, but I am happy with where I am in my career. Shakespeare play, check. Playing in the Hollywood Fringe Festival as the lead, check. Many varied indie film roles that are fun, check. Random online interview invites, check!
I won’t bother you with all the hardships but you can listen to my podcast, “Ecobitch Actress” where I have many actress stories and I talk about race, acting training, being an ex-background actor, etc. It is a better choice than listening to someone murdering someone else. Way healthier for your mental health.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all, please don’t stalk me.

Of course we shall do San Gabriel Valley, 626 homies. (it is the Asian hub)
A pre-lunch dessert at Meet Fresh, a Taiwanese taro sweets place.
Lunch at Lunasia if they’re non-Asian, a slightly dirtier but tastier dim sum place if they are Asian.
After lunch boba at Odd One out Boba.
And Dinner at Dolan’s, Golden Leaf, Noodle st, Phoenix, or similar. If someone want to be affiliated please pay me and I’ll advertise for you here.
Then take them to the Ice House if I am performing there!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am being serious when I say my mission doing standup comedy is to be the voice of all the Asian/Asian American girls who are tired of yellow-fevered man gawking at us daily and all their micro-racist behaviours towards us because of our Asian looks and not because of our individual humanness. I did a whole set at the Ice House in Pasadena about the yellow fever pandemic and it was well-received by a ton of white men audience who felt heard in the opposite way as I gently roast them like marshmallows. The title was “Do I Look Like A Duolingo Owl To You”
I may do another show soon, or I am open to invites and bookings. I am telling you the 8 minutes were epic and I have it on video hehe. Follow my instagram @sadiecofficial and my podcast @ecobitchactress to get updates on my next show!
